Custom Apparatus

Custom apparatus refers to purpose-built equipment assembled or modified to meet the specific requirements of a scientific experiment. In biology, researchers combine components such as chambers, sensors, pumps, or supports to control experimental conditions, deliver stimuli, and record biological responses that standard instruments may not capture. These systems enable precise studies of physiology, behavior, biomechanics, environmental responses, and laboratory processes, while improving experimental reproducibility and measurement accuracy. Designing an apparatus around a defined research question can also extend the capabilities of existing methods and support specialized investigations where commercial equipment is unavailable or unsuitable.

Operant drug self-administration and conditioned place preference (CPP) procedures are expansively used in research to model various components of drug reinforcement, consumption, and addiction in humans. In this report, we combined traditional CPP and self-administration methods as a novel approach to studying drug reinforcement and addiction in rats.

Golgi Apparatus

Properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles that exit the ER. Motor proteins transport these vesicles to the Golgi apparatus for adding modifications that make these proteins functional at their destination. The Golgi apparatus is a eukaryotic organelle that has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. It is a primary sorting and dispatch station for cargo arriving from the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter the cis face of the Golgi, closest to the ER, and are...

As they leave the Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER), properly folded and assembled proteins are selectively packaged into vesicles. These vesicles are transported by microtubule-based motor proteins and fuse together to form vesicular tubular clusters, subsequently arriving at the Golgi apparatus, a eukaryotic endomembrane organelle that often has a distinctive ribbon-like appearance. The Golgi apparatus is a major sorting and dispatch station for the products of the ER. Newly arriving vesicles enter...
