Recessive

Recessive describes an allele or genetic trait that is expressed in the phenotype only when its effects are not masked by a dominant allele. In diploid organisms, a recessive allele typically influences observable characteristics when an individual inherits two copies, creating a homozygous genotype; individuals with one recessive and one dominant allele are heterozygous carriers and usually do not show the trait. Understanding recessive inheritance helps explain patterns in genetic crosses, predict offspring genotypes and phenotypes, and identify how inherited conditions can appear unexpectedly across generations. These principles support pedigree analysis, genetic counseling, and research in heredity and disease biology.

The 2008 financial crisis disrupted both the financial system and everyday economic activity. A sharp pullback in banks’ willingness to lend caused a credit crunch, making it harder for businesses and households to access credit. Without access to credit, production slowed, and workers were laid off.Consumer sentiment deteriorated sharply during this period. The dual shock of plummeting home values and declining equity markets eroded household wealth. In response, households cut back on...

Kinematic History of a Salient-recess Junction Explored through a Combined Approach of Field Data and Analog Sandbox Modeling

Kinematic histories of fold-thrust belts are typically based on careful examinations of high-grade metamorphic rocks within a salient. We provide a novel method of understanding fold-thrust belts by examining salient-recess junctions. We analyze the oft-ignored upper crustal rocks using a combined approach of detailed fault analysis with experimental sandbox modeling.

Evolutionary change is interesting and important to study, but changes in populations occur over long periods of time and in huge physical spaces and are therefore very difficult to measure. In general, studying phenomena like this requires the use of mathematical models which are built using parameters that can be conveniently measured. These models are then used to make predictions about how changes to the system might affect the outcome. For example, changes to the frequency of genetic...

Overview The probability of inheriting a trait can be calculated using the sum and product rules. The sum rule is used to calculate the probability of mutually exclusive events. The product rule predicts the probability of multiple independent events. These probability rules determine theoretical probability—the likelihood of events occurring before they happen. Empirical probability, by contrast, is calculated based on events that have already occurred. The Sum and Product Rules Are...
