Eutectic Halt

Eutectic halt is the temporary arrest of temperature change that occurs when a cooling mixture reaches its eutectic point, where its components solidify together at a specific composition and temperature. As crystallization begins, the release of latent heat offsets ongoing heat removal, producing a plateau in the cooling curve until the liquid phase is largely transformed into a solid eutectic mixture. In chemistry, recognizing a eutectic halt helps identify phase behavior, interpret thermal analysis data, and distinguish phase transitions from ordinary cooling. The principle supports controlled crystallization and informs processes such as freeze-drying, cryopreservation, and materials processing.

Direct Restart of a Replication Fork Stalled by a Head-On RNA Polymerase

The fate of the replisome following a collision with a head-on RNA polymerase (RNAP) is unknown. We find that the replisome stalls upon collision with a head-on RNAP, but resumes elongation after displacing the RNAP from DNA. Mfd promotes replication restart by facilitating displacement of the RNAP after the collision.

Cell Cycle Analysis: An Approach to Study Cell Cycle Regulation of miRNA-transfected Lung Cancer Cells

2023

miRNA or microRNA are key regulators of cell cycle progression. This video describes a flow cytometry-based cell cycle analysis of lung cancer cells transfected with miRNA, to study the effect of miRNA on cell cycle regulation. Inhibition of proliferation by halting cell cycle progression has shown potential to be a promising approach for cancer treatment.

Determining the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of Enrofloxacin Against Avian Pathogenic E. coli

Begin with a suspension of avian pathogenic E. coli or APEC in growth media.APEC is a Gram-negative bacterium that infects poultry by entering through the respiratory tract. After breaching the mucosal layer, APEC adhere to epithelial cells, multiply locally, and disrupt the epithelial barrier to enter the bloodstream. The bacteria then spread to multiple organs, causing systemic infection.Add an equal volume of the bacterial suspension to each well of a multi-well plate containing increasing...
