Tms Reference

A TMS reference uses tetramethylsilane (TMS) as a chemical shift standard in nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, allowing signals to be reported on a consistent scale. Because all twelve hydrogen atoms in TMS are chemically equivalent and strongly shielded by silicon, its proton resonance is assigned a chemical shift of 0 ppm; the carbon resonance also provides a reference for 13C NMR. Chemists add TMS directly to a sample or use it through an external reference to calibrate spectra, compare peak positions, and identify molecular environments. This standardization supports structural analysis, purity assessment, and reliable comparison of NMR data across experiments.

Source: Laboratories of Jonas T. Kaplan and Sarah I. Gimbel—University of Southern California Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive brain stimulation technique that involves passing current through an insulated coil placed against the scalp. A brief magnetic field is created by current in the coil, and because of the physical process of induction, this leads to a current in the nearby neural tissue. Depending on the duration, frequency, and magnitude of these magnetic...

Citations play a key role in academic writing by documenting the evidence that supports scholarly claims. Beyond giving credit to original authors, they show engagement with existing research and strengthen the credibility of an argument. Effective citation practices are central to research literacy because they reflect a writer’s ability to locate, evaluate, and integrate reliable sources into their work. Digital Tools for Citation Management Advances in digital technology have simplified the...
