Computerized Databases

Computerized databases are organized digital systems that store, manage, and retrieve structured information, enabling efficient access to records that would be difficult to handle manually. They use data fields, standardized formats, indexing, and query systems to connect related information, enforce access controls, and return specific records based on user-defined criteria. In clinical settings, databases support electronic health records, patient registries, laboratory results, clinical trials, and epidemiological studies. By improving data organization and retrieval, they help researchers identify patterns, monitor outcomes, coordinate care, and support evidence-based decisions while requiring careful attention to data quality, privacy, and security.

Database Searching

2026

Effective research begins with the ability to navigate academic databases efficiently. Unlike general web search engines, scholarly databases are designed to index peer-reviewed articles, conference proceedings, and other credible academic publications. Developing a structured search strategy ensures that researchers can identify relevant, high-quality sources with precision. For example, when studying how sleep patterns relate to circadian rhythms in humans, researchers should move beyond...

Individuals with intermittent claudication exhibit poor balance compared to healthy controls. Computerized dynamic posturography is an objective method for measuring an individual's postural responses to balance disturbances. This provides an objective reflection of the person’s ability to respond to situations under which sensory stimuli are altered and unexpected perturbations occur.
