Public Communication

Public communication is the organized sharing of information with broad audiences through spoken, written, visual, or digital channels, making knowledge accessible beyond specialist settings. It works by adapting messages to an audience’s language, health literacy, cultural context, and information needs, while using clear evidence, appropriate framing, and feedback to support understanding. In clinical settings, public communication supports health education, risk communication, patient outreach, and informed decision-making. Effective communication can clarify complex medical findings, address uncertainty, strengthen trust between healthcare institutions and communities, and improve engagement with prevention, treatment, and public health guidance.
