Lead Sulfide Titanium Dioxide

Lead sulfide titanium dioxide is a semiconductor composite that combines lead sulfide (PbS) with titanium dioxide (TiO₂) to unite complementary optical and electronic properties. In this heterojunction, PbS absorbs visible and near-infrared light, while TiO₂ provides a stable wide-band-gap framework; interfacial band alignment can promote separation and transport of photogenerated electrons and holes, reducing their recombination. Engineers use this composite in photovoltaic devices, photodetectors, photocatalytic systems, and other optoelectronic technologies. Its tunable light response and nanoscale interface make it useful for designing materials that convert, detect, or chemically harness solar radiation.

Preparation and Reactions of Sulfides

Sulfides are the sulfur analog of ethers, just as thiols are the sulfur analog of alcohol. Like ethers, sulfides also consist of two hydrocarbon groups bonded to the central sulfur atom. Depending upon the type of groups present, sulfides can be symmetrical or asymmetrical. Symmetrical sulfides can be prepared via an SN2 reaction between 2 equivalents of an alkyl halide and one equivalent of sodium sulfide. Asymmetrical sulfides can be synthesized by treating thiols with an alkyl halide and a...
