Nanoscale Texture Replication

Nanoscale texture replication is an engineering process that transfers surface features with dimensions of roughly one to several hundred nanometers from a master pattern to another material, enabling precise control of surface properties. The process typically uses a patterned mold, stamp, or template to shape a polymer, coating, or other deformable material through methods such as imprinting, molding, or deposition, followed by curing or solidification to preserve feature fidelity. Replicated textures can modify wettability, friction, adhesion, optical response, and biological interactions. These capabilities support advanced coatings, micro- and nanofluidic devices, sensors, photonic surfaces, and manufacturing strategies for functional materials.

Shape and Texture of Coarse Aggregate

2024

Aggregate shape is classified based on the relative sharpness or roundness of the edges and corners. This classification includes categories like rounded, angular, elongated, and flaky, each with specific characteristics. Rounded aggregates, fully shaped by attrition, are typical of river or seashore gravel, while angular aggregates, such as crushed rock, have well-defined edges. Aggregates that are elongated and flaky are less desirable, as they can reduce the workability and strength of...

Isolating electrical and thermal effects on electrically assisted deformation (EAD) is very difficult using macroscopic samples. Metallic sample micro- and nanostructures together with a custom test procedure have been developed to evaluate the impact of applied current on the formation without joule heating and evolution of dislocations on these samples.

Chromosome Replication

2020

Before a cell can divide, it must accurately replicate all of its chromosomes, including the DNA and its associated histone and non-histone proteins. This process begins at numerous origins of replication during the S phase of the cell cycle in each of a cell’s chromosomes simultaneously. Certain nucleotides can act as origins of replication, but these sequences are not well defined - especially in complex, multi-cellular, eukaryotic species. The length of DNA that spans an origin of...

DNA Replication

2020

DNA replication involves the separation of the two strands of the double helix, with each strand serving as a template from which the new complementary strand is copied. After replication, each double-stranded DNA includes one parental or “old” strand and one “new” strand. This is known as semiconservative replication. The resulting DNA molecules have the same sequence and are divided equally into the two daughter cells. Replication in Prokaryotes DNA replication uses a large number of...
