Permanent Magnet Array

A permanent magnet array is an engineered arrangement of multiple permanent magnets that produces a designed magnetic-field pattern, making it useful for controlling force, motion, and energy conversion. Its behavior depends on each magnet’s polarity, orientation, spacing, and geometry: combining their fields can concentrate flux in one region, reduce it in another, or create a repeating field, while magnetic attraction and repulsion generate torque or linear force. In engineering, arrays support electric motors and generators, magnetic bearings, actuators, sensors, particle separation, and magnetic couplings. Careful design improves field uniformity, efficiency, positioning accuracy, and resistance to unwanted magnetic interference.

A protocol for stroke onset time estimation in a rat model of stroke exploiting quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (qMRI) parameters is described. The procedure exploits diffusion MRI for delineation of the acute stroke lesion and quantitative T1 and T2 (qT1 and qT2) relaxation times for timing of stroke.

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN Magnetic fields can be generated by moving charges, such as an electrical current. The magnetic field generated by a current can be calculated from the Maxwell equation. In addition, magnetic objects such as bar magnets can also generate magnetic fields due to microscopic dynamics of charges inside the material. Magnetic fields will exert magnetic force on other moving...

Applying Permanent, Robust Stenciled Patterns of Fine Particles to Elastomeric Surfaces

2025

We present a method to apply permanent markings and patterns to silicone surfaces by adhering fine particles to the surface. The markings can be either a recognizable design or a random speckle pattern such as those used in digital image correlation.
