Probe Penetration Depth

Probe penetration depth is the distance a probe enters a material during inspection, testing, or measurement, and it helps characterize surface and subsurface properties. As an applied force drives the probe into the material, resistance from hardness, stiffness, friction, and internal structure produces a depth response that can be measured directly or related to material behavior. Engineers use penetration depth in indentation testing, soil and geotechnical investigations, coating evaluation, and contact-based sensors to assess strength, layer thickness, and structural condition. Controlling probe geometry, loading conditions, and measurement accuracy improves comparisons between samples and supports reliable material selection, quality control, and failure analysis.

Biotinylated Cell-Penetrating Peptide Probe to Detect Protein-Protein Interactions

2025

This video demonstrates a technique that uses biotinylated cell-penetrating peptides to detect intracellular protein-protein interactions. The cell-penetrating peptides facilitate the conjugated peptide to enter a cell and specifically bind to its interacting proteins. The biotin, after binding to avidin, allows purification of the interacting proteins’ complex from a cell lysate.

2018

Here we present a Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) system based on a ground-coupled, densely populated antenna array for monitoring the dynamic process of subsurface water infiltration. A time-lapse radar image of the infiltration process allowed estimating the depth of the wetting front during the course of the infiltration process.

The goal of this protocol is to alter the penetrance of lethal skeletal mutant phenotypes in zebrafish by selective breeding. Lethal mutants cannot be grown to adulthood and bred themselves, therefore this protocol describes a method for tracking and selecting penetrance through multiple generations by progeny testing.
