Tetrahedral Truss

A tetrahedral truss is a three-dimensional structural framework built from interconnected members that form tetrahedra, rigid units with four triangular faces. Its geometry distributes applied loads through axial tension and compression in the members, while triangulation limits deformation and provides strength with relatively little material. Engineers combine tetrahedral modules to create space frames, roofs, bridges, towers, and other lightweight structures that span large areas. Studying this truss type helps clarify how structural geometry, load paths, material efficiency, and joint design influence the stability and performance of engineered systems.

Crystal Field Theory - Tetrahedral and Square Planar Complexes

Tetrahedral Complexes Crystal field theory (CFT) is applicable to molecules in geometries other than octahedral. In octahedral complexes, the lobes of the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals point directly at the ligands. For tetrahedral complexes, the d orbitals remain in place, but with only four ligands located between the axes. None of the orbitals points directly at the tetrahedral ligands. However, the dx2−y2 and dz2 orbitals (along the Cartesian axes) overlap with the ligands less than the dxy,...

A space truss is a three-dimensional counterpart of a planar truss. These structures consist of members connected at their ends, often utilizing ball-and-socket joints to create a stable and versatile framework. The space truss is widely used in various construction projects due to its adaptability and capacity to withstand complex loads. At the core of a space truss lies the fundamental unit known as the tetrahedron. This structure is composed of six members that form a three-dimensional shape...

Simple Trusses

A truss is a structural framework consisting of slender members connected at joints, designed to support external loads while minimizing material usage and weight. Simple trusses are a type of planar truss where all members lie within a single two-dimensional plane. The most basic planar truss is a simple truss with three members arranged in a triangular formation. This triangular truss is inherently stable and rigid due to its geometry, making it an ideal starting point for creating more...
