Laplacian Frequency Filter

A Laplacian frequency filter is a signal- or image-processing method that uses the second spatial derivative to emphasize rapid changes in intensity, making fine structure and boundaries more visible. In environmental analysis, it operates by convolving raster data, such as satellite imagery or digital elevation models, with a Laplacian kernel; areas where neighboring values change sharply produce strong responses, while smoother regions are suppressed. This high-pass behavior can highlight edges, drainage patterns, terrain breaks, pollution boundaries, or other spatial features, supporting image enhancement, feature extraction, and interpretation of Earth-observation data. Careful parameter selection is important because noise can also be amplified.

Passive filters are utilized to shape the frequency spectrum of signals across a diverse array of applications. These filters, using only passive elements like resistors (R), inductors (L), and capacitors (C), are capable of selectively allowing or blocking certain frequency ranges without the need for external power sources. Low-Pass Filters Low-pass filters are designed to transmit signals with frequencies lower than the cutoff frequency, ωc, and attenuate those above it. The cutoff frequency...

Here, we present a study to evaluate the anti-viral efficacy of copper- and silver-based surface coatings on air filters. Using a bioaerosol chamber and Phi6 bacteriophage, this method quantifies viral inactivation and mechanical filtration efficiency for self-sanitizing indoor air technologies.

Active Filters

Active filters are electronic circuits that use operational amplifiers (op-amps), resistors, and capacitors to filter out unwanted frequency components from a signal. A first-order low-pass active filter is designed to pass signals with a frequency lower than a certain cutoff frequency and attenuate frequencies higher than that cutoff frequency. The transfer function for a first-order low-pass active filter is: Where Af is the gain at low frequencies also known as the dc gain, s is the...

What is a Frequency Distribution

2023

A frequency is the number of times a value of the data occurs. The sum of all the frequency values represents the total number of students included in the sample. It is commonly used to group data of quantitative types. Frequency distributions can be displayed in a table, histogram, line graph, dot plot, or pie chart, just to name a few. A histogram is a graphical representation of tabulated frequencies, shown as adjacent rectangles, erected over discrete intervals (bins), with an area equal to...
