Fiduciary Responsibility

Fiduciary responsibility is a legal and ethical duty to act in another party’s best interests when managing their money, property, or financial affairs. In finance, a fiduciary must exercise prudence and care, avoid or disclose conflicts of interest, protect confidential information, and place the client’s interests ahead of personal gain. These obligations guide relationships involving investment advisers, trustees, retirement-plan managers, and other professionals entrusted with assets. Fiduciary responsibility promotes accountability and informed decision-making, helping investors evaluate advice, understand potential conflicts, and seek remedies when entrusted assets or interests are mishandled.
