Radioactive Antibody Uptake

Radioactive antibody uptake is the accumulation of radiolabeled antibodies in cells, tissues, or infectious sites, enabling their detection through emitted radiation. The antibody binds a specific antigen, while the attached radionuclide produces a measurable signal; uptake depends on antigen abundance, antibody distribution, cellular internalization, retention, and clearance from surrounding tissues. In immunology and infection research, this approach helps localize pathogens or immune-associated targets, assess how antibodies reach infected sites, and evaluate target-specific binding in vivo. These measurements support infection imaging, biodistribution studies, and the development of diagnostic or antibody-based therapeutic strategies.

Radiolabeled Amino Acid Uptake Assay to Quantify Cellular Uptake of Amino Acids

2025

This video demonstrates an in vitro technique for estimating amino acid uptake by bone marrow-derived stromal cells. Na+-dependent amino acid transporters mediate the uptake of radiolabeled amino acids inside the cells, and the cellular uptake is estimated by measuring the radioactivity.

Radioactivity and Nuclear Equations

Nuclear chemistry is the study of reactions that involve changes in nuclear structure. The nucleus of an atom is composed of protons and, except for hydrogen, neutrons. The number of protons in the nucleus is called the atomic number (Z) of the element, and the sum of the number of protons and the number of neutrons is the mass number (A). Atoms with the same atomic number but different mass numbers are isotopes of the same element. A nuclide of an element has a specific number of protons and...

Radioactive Decay and Radiometric Dating

Radioactivity is a spontaneous disintegration of an unstable nuclide and is a random process, as all the nuclei in the sample do not decay simultaneously. The number of disintegrations per unit time is called the activity (A), which is directly proportional to the number of nuclei in the sample. The decay constant (λ) is an average probability of decay per nucleus in unit time. The SI unit for activity is the becquerel, which is one disintegration per second. Another unit of activity is the...

An Antibody Uptake Assay for Imaging Notch/DeltaD Signaling in Zebrafish Radial Glia Progenitors

2025

This video demonstrates an antibody uptake assay to image Notch/DeltaD signaling in zebrafish radial glia progenitors. It involves mounting agarose-embedded dechorionated zebrafish embryos, injecting a dye solution targeting DeltaD ligands on RGPs, and imaging under a fluorescence microscope for asymmetric cell division confirming Notch/DeltaD signaling activation.

Measuring Dopamine Uptake in Mouse Brain Synaptosomes Using Radiolabeled Dopamine

2025

This video demonstrates the assessment of dopamine uptake in synaptosomes harvested from mouse brains. It outlines steps for preparing synaptosomes for dopamine uptake via dopamine transporters, treating them with varying concentrations of radiolabeled dopamine, isolating the synaptosomes, and measuring radioactivity to quantify dopamine uptake.
