Proportional Enlargement

Proportional enlargement is a mathematical transformation that increases the size of a figure while preserving its shape and the ratios between corresponding dimensions. It works by multiplying every length, coordinate, or measurement by the same scale factor greater than one, so corresponding angles remain equal and corresponding sides stay proportional. This process can be represented with diagrams, coordinate rules, ratios, or scale drawings, and the scale factor also determines how area and volume change. Proportional enlargement is used to interpret maps and technical plans, create models, analyze geometric similarity, and solve problems involving measurement, design, and spatial relationships.

Enlargement of the Plasma Membrane

2023

Cell division and enlargement are processes that require precise control. The control ensures that cell division cannot proceed unless the cell has grown to a specific size. A spherical, dividing cell requires an approximately 1.6X increase in its surface area to double its volume. The secretory pathway also has a significant role in cell membrane enlargement. Secretory vesicles that bud off from the Golgi apparatus and later fuse with the plasma membrane during exocytosis are a major source of...

Sample Proportion and Population Proportion

2023

Collecting samples or responses from an entire population takes significant time and effort, so a researcher collects responses from only a sample of that population. Suppose a study needs to collect information about a specific mobile application. After sample collection, the researcher analyzes the data and discovers that most individuals in the sample use that specific mobile application. The sample proportion measures the number of individuals in a sample who either use or don't use the...

Testing a Claim about Population Proportion

A complete procedure for testing a claim about a population proportion is provided here. There are two methods of testing a claim about a population proportion: (1) Using the sample proportion from the data where a binomial distribution is approximated to the normal distribution and (2) Using the binomial probabilities calculated from the data. The first method uses normal distribution as an approximation to the binomial distribution. The requirements are as follows: sample size is large...

Pharmacodynamic Models: Additive and Proportional Drug Effect Model

2026

Drug response models describe how pharmacological agents interact with biological systems to produce measurable effects. Baseline responses are inherent physiological activities without a drug significantly influencing the observed pharmacological outcomes. Depending on the drug response model employed, these baseline responses may combine with the drug's effect in either an additive or proportional manner.Additive Drug Response ModelIn the additive model, the drug effect is independent of the...

Quantification of Levator Ani Hiatus Enlargement by Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Males and Females with Pelvic Organ Prolapse

2019

Here we present a protocol to standardize the measurement of the levator ani hiatus size by magnetic resonance imaging. The purpose is to extract biomechanical inferences from image analysis by comparing resting and straining values in patients of both sexes with pelvic prolapse, using consistent anatomical bony landmarks.
