Arthroscopic Fixation

Arthroscopic fixation is a minimally invasive orthopedic technique that stabilizes or repairs injured structures inside a joint while limiting disruption to surrounding tissues. Through small portals, a surgeon uses an arthroscope for direct visualization, prepares and aligns the damaged tissue or bone, and secures it with devices such as screws, suture anchors, or fixation buttons. The approach is used for selected fractures, ligament and tendon injuries, labral tears, and osteochondral lesions in joints including the shoulder, knee, and ankle. By combining precise implant placement with smaller access incisions, arthroscopic fixation can restore joint stability and support rehabilitation while enabling evaluation of surgical outcomes.

Two basic types of preparation are used to visualize specimens with a light microscope: wet mounts and fixed specimens. The simplest type of preparation is the wet mount, in which the specimen is placed in a drop of liquid on the slide. A liquid specimen can be directly deposited on the slide using a dropper. Solid specimens, such as skin scraping, can be placed on the slide before adding a drop of liquid to prepare the wet mount. Sometimes the liquid is simply water, but stains are often added...
