Bone Cement Injection

Bone cement injection is a minimally invasive medical procedure that delivers bone cement into weakened or fractured bone to improve structural stability and reduce pain. In vertebral procedures such as vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty, clinicians guide a needle into a damaged vertebra and inject polymethylmethacrylate cement, which hardens in place and reinforces the bone. The technique is used primarily to treat painful vertebral compression fractures associated with osteoporosis, cancer, or trauma. By stabilizing the fracture site, bone cement injection can support mobility and function while illustrating how image-guided interventions address structural problems without open surgery.

Here we present a protocol that generates large amounts of murine monocytes from heterogeneous bone marrow for translational applications. In comparison to others, this new method helps reduce the number of sacrificed animals and lowers costs by avoiding expensive methods such as high gradient magnetic cell separation (MACS).

Generating Rabbit Model of Bone Infection: A Technique of Inducing Chronic Infection by Injecting Bacteria Directly in Bone Marrow

This manuscript provides the detailed procedure of intra-iliac artery (IIA) injection, a technique to deliver cancer cells specifically to hind limb tissues including bones to establish experimental bone metastases. Although initially established with breast tumor models, this protocol can be easily extended to other cancer types.

Hydration of Cement

2024

Hydration of cement is a chemical reaction between cement particles and water. This process occurs primarily through two mechanisms: through-solution and topochemical. In the through-solution process, anhydrous compounds dissolve into their constituents, hydrates form in the solution, and then precipitate from the supersaturated solution. The topochemical process involves solid-state reactions at the cement particle surface. The through-solution process dominates the topochemical process at the...
