Remote Surgical Guidance

Remote surgical guidance is a telemedicine approach in which a distant specialist supports an operating team during a procedure without being physically present, helping extend surgical expertise across geographic boundaries. In practice, real-time audiovisual communication transmits the operative field and relevant patient information, allowing the remote clinician to interpret findings, recommend actions, and clarify decisions through two-way discussion. This model can support intraoperative consultation, surgical education, and care in settings where specialized expertise is limited, while creating opportunities to standardize decision-making and improve access to complex procedures.

Here, we present a protocol to measure, with high spatial resolution, the unsteady surface pressure in turbulent flows. This method demonstrates the construction of a remote microphone probe (RMP) and the determination of its frequency-dependent, complex transfer function. An analytical determination of the dynamic response is presented and validated.

This protocol describes a bioprinting methodology using an automated robotic depositing system that incorporates etched topographical guidance cues with the precision deposition of a cell bearing hydrogel bioink. The printed cells are directly delivered to the etched features and are able to sense and orientate with them.

We describe here the use of a pH-sensitive green fluorescent protein variant, pHluorin, to study the spatio-temporal dynamics of axon guidance receptors trafficking at the cell surface. The pHluorin-tagged receptor is expressed both in cell culture and in vivo, using electroporation of the chick embryo.
