Spatial Proximity Imaging

Spatial Proximity Imaging is a family of methods that visualizes molecules or cellular structures according to their nanoscale proximity, preserving information about where biological interactions occur. In these approaches, target-specific probes or labels generate a detectable signal when nearby molecules are simultaneously recognized or brought within a defined distance, and microscopy maps the resulting signal across cells or tissue. In neuroscience, this spatial information helps characterize protein organization at synapses, trace molecular relationships within neuronal compartments, and examine changes associated with development, signaling, or disease. By linking molecular identity with location, the technique supports more precise models of neural function and cellular organization.

We present a technique that allows the spatial separation of different conformers or clusters present in a molecular beam. An electrostatic deflector is used to separate species by their mass-to-dipole moment ratio, leading to the production of gas-phase ensembles of a single conformer or cluster stoichiometry.

Spatial Cueing

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Attention refers to the limited human ability to select some information for processing at the expense of other stimuli in the environment. Attention operates in all sensory modalities: vision, hearing, touch, even taste and smell. It is most often studied in the visual domain though. A common way to study visual attention is with a spatial cueing paradigm. This paradigm allows researchers to measure the consequences of focusing...

At the subcellular level, signaling events are dynamically modulated by developmental and environmental cues. Here we describe a protocol that employs the tobacco transient expression system to monitor dynamic protein-protein interaction and to disclose spatial organization of signal transduction in plant cells.

Spatial Memory Testing Using Mazes

Spatial learning and memory are neurological functions that allow us to remember important details associated with our environment. Scientists test this phenomenon in rodents using different types of mazes like Morris water maze, Radial water maze, and Barnes maze. By investigating spatial memory in rodents, neurobehavioral scientists can gain valuable understanding of how these processes are altered following brain damage in humans. Here, the neurobiology behind spatial memory is briefly...
