Radial Component

Radial component is the part of a vector that points directly toward or away from a chosen origin, making it essential for describing motion and fields in polar, cylindrical, or spherical coordinates. It is obtained by projecting the vector onto the radial unit vector, so for a vector A, the component is A_r = A · r-hat; its sign indicates inward or outward direction, while the remaining component lies transverse to the radius. In physics, radial components clarify central-force motion, orbital dynamics, acceleration, velocity, and spatially varying electric or gravitational fields. Analyzing them helps determine how systems move relative to an origin and separates radial effects from angular behavior.

Radial System Protection

2024

Radial systems employ time-delay overcurrent relays to reduce load interruptions. When a fault occurs, the nearest breaker opens first, while upstream breakers remain closed due to longer delay settings. This approach ensures minimal disruption to the rest of the system. In a radial system with a fault downstream of the third breaker, ideally, only the third breaker will open, isolating the fault and interrupting the load connected beyond it. The second breaker has a longer delay setting,...

Evaluating Motor Impairment in C. elegans Models Using the Radial Locomotion Assay

2025

This video demonstrates the use of a radial locomotion assay to evaluate motor dysfunction in C. elegans expressing either wild-type or ALS-mutant human TDP-43 protein. Worms with varying levels of wild-type or mutant TDP-43 expression are allowed to crawl, and their movement is measured by the radial distance traveled from the central point on the assay plate. The assay distinguishes between mild, moderate, and severe motor impairments based on the distance traveled by the different C. elegans...

(2017) This video demonstrates time-lapse confocal microscopy to observe cortical neuron radial migration from the subventricular zone to the cortical plate via radial glial scaffolds in transduced mouse embryonic brain slices.

Assessment of radial pulse

Assessment of Radial Pulse The radial pulse, located at the wrist, is often the preferred site for assessing peripheral pulse because of its accessibility and dependability. The process of determining the radial pulse involves several steps: Hand Hygiene: • Begin by performing hand hygiene to prevent the transmission of microorganisms. Preparation: • Identification: Verify the patient's identity to ensure accurate and safe care. • Determination: Assess the need for pulse...
