Trauma

Trauma is the psychological and physiological response to events or circumstances that overwhelm a person’s ability to cope, potentially affecting emotions, behavior, memory, and relationships. In psychology, trauma can alter threat perception and stress regulation by sustaining defensive responses after danger has passed, while distressing memories may remain fragmented or easily triggered by reminders. Researchers and clinicians study trauma to assess risk, understand conditions such as post-traumatic stress disorder, and develop treatments including cognitive behavioral and exposure-based therapies. Trauma-informed care applies this knowledge across mental health, education, and social services to support safety, trust, recovery, and resilience.

Pseudofracture, a reproducible murine model of sterile musculoskeletal trauma, allows for evaluation of late term post-traumatic immune responses. This article describes the procedural execution of the model step by step, including the potential for experimental model combinations to permit study of multiple trauma.

Acute Brain Trauma in Mice Followed By Longitudinal Two-photon Imaging

Acute brain trauma is a severe injury that has no adequate treatment to date. Multiphoton microscopy allows studying longitudinally the process of acute brain trauma development and probing therapeutical strategies in rodents. Two models of acute brain trauma studied with in vivo two-photon imaging of brain are demonstrated in this protocol.
