The Nucleus

Der Kern, ein herausragendes Merkmal eukaryotischer Zellen, ist eine membrangebundene Organelle, die die genetische Information enthält, die DNA, die je nach Lebenszyklusphase der Zelle unterschiedlich organisiert ist.
 Beispielsweise sind DNA-Proteinkomplexe, die als Chromatin bekannt sind, im Nukleoplasma, einer gelartigen Substanz, suspendiert und sind insbesondere in einer Region konzentriert, die als Nukleolus bezeichnet wird.
 Wenn sich die Zelle nicht teilt, sind die Chromatinfasern locker angeordnet und ähneln verschlungenen Fäden, so dass die DNA während der Transkription leichter zugänglich ist.
 Im Gegensatz dazu entstehen im Nukleolus, wenn die sich teilenden Chromatinfasern der Zelle zu Chromosomen komprimiert werden, auch die für die Translation notwendigen Ribosomenuntereinheiten.
 Der Kern ist von einer Doppelmembran-Kernhülle umgeben, die mit Proteinen ausgekleidete Poren enthält, um den Fluss von Ionen, Molekülen, ribosomalen Teilen und mRNA zwischen dem inneren Kernplasma und dem Zytoplasma zu steuern.
 Während die meisten Zellen im Körper einen Zellkern haben, sind einige wie die roten Blutkörperchen kernlos, es fehlt ihnen ein Zellkern.
 während andere, wie etwa Skelettmuskelzellen, aufgrund struktureller und funktioneller Erfordernisse mit mehr als einem Kern mehrkernig sind.

zellkern

Der Zellkern ist ein membrangebundenes Organell, welcher die genetischen Anweisungen in Form von chromosomaler DNA in einer eukaryotischen Zelle enthält. Diese unterscheidet sich von der DNA in Mitochondrien oder Chloroplasten, welche für diese Organellen spezifische Funktionen ausführt. Wie z.B. rote Blutkörperchen, haben einige Zellen keinen Zellkern. Dagegen haben andere Zellen gleich mehrere Zellkerne, wie zum Beispiel die Skelettmuskelzellen. Die meisten eukaryotischen Zellen besitzen jedoch einen einzigen Zellkern bzw. Nukleus.
 
 Die DNA im Zellkern ist um Proteine wie z.B. Histone gewickelt. Dadurch entsteht ein DNA-Proteinkomplex, das Chromatin. Wenn Zellen sich nicht teilen, befinden sie sich in der Interphase des Zellzyklus, und das Chromatin diffus organisiert ist. Dies ermöglicht einen einfachen Zugang zur DNA während der Transkription, wenn die Boten-RNA (mRNA) anhand des DNA-Codes synthetisiert wird. Steht eine eukaryotische Zelle kurz vor der Teilung, kondensiert sich das Chromatin eng in unterschiedliche, lineare Chromosomen. Der Mensch hat insgesamt 46 Chromosomen.
 
 Das Chromatin ist besonders in einer Region des Zellkerns konzentriert, die als Nukleolus bezeichnet wird. Der Nukleolus ist wichtig für die Produktion von Ribosomen, welche die mRNA in Proteine übersetzen. Im Nukleolus wird die ribosomale RNA synthetisiert und mit Proteinen zu ribosomalen Untereinheiten kombiniert, welche später im Zytoplasma der Zelle die funktionierenden Ribosomen bilden.
 
 Das Innere des Zellkerns ist mit einer gelartigen Substanz, dem Karyoplasma, gefüllt. Die Kernhülle ist eine Doppelmembran bestehend aus zwei Lipid-Doppelschichtengenannt und umgibt den Zellkern. Kleine durch Proteine geformte Öffnungen, sogenannte Poren, punktieren die Zellkernhülle. Sie steuern, welche Substanzen in den Kern ein- und austreten können. Die Poren erlauben es beispielsweise der mRNA, den Kern zu verlassen. So kann sie zu den Ribosomen reisen, um die Proteintranslation zu steuern.

The nucleus is the control center of a eukaryotic cell. It is a membrane-bound organelle that contains chromosomal DNA. That DNA helps control gene expression and regulate protein production in the cell.

Not all cellular DNA has the same role. The DNA in mitochondria and chloroplasts supports functions that are specific to those organelles. Inside the nucleus, DNA structure also affects how genes are regulated.

Nuclear DNA is wrapped around proteins called histones. This forms chromatin, a DNA-protein complex. During interphase, when the cell is not dividing, chromatin stays loosely arranged. This open form makes the DNA easier to access during transcription.

When a eukaryotic cell prepares to divide, chromatin changes shape. It condenses into distinct, linear chromosomes. These chromosomes can then be separated into daughter cells.

The nucleus also contains the nucleolus. This is a membrane-less organelle that forms around the chromosomal loci for ribosomal RNA, or rRNA. The nucleolus is the site where rRNA is made and ribosomal subunits are assembled. These subunits leave the nucleus and later combine to form functional ribosomes.

Other nuclear bodies are found in the nucleus as well. These include Cajal bodies, speckles, and paraspeckles. They help organize the nuclear space and create separate sites for specific biological reactions. Their membrane-less structure also allows contents to move more easily with the nucleoplasm.
