First Law of Thermodynamics

Das erste Gesetz der Thermodynamik, Energie kann nicht erzeugt oder zerstört, sondern nur transformiert werden, kann in einem klassischen Nahrungsnetz demonstriert werden.
 Hier wird die Lichtenergie der Sonne zunächst von Pflanzen als Strahlungsenergie genutzt und dann in chemische Energie umgewandelt, die als komplexe Kohlenhydrate gespeichert wird.
 Die Vegetation wird schließlich von Tieren verzehrt.
 Beim Abbau der Zucker wird Energie entweder als Wärme freigesetzt, in Makromolekülen als chemische Energiereserve gespeichert und später genutzt, oder an ein Raubtier weitergegeben.

Der erste Hauptsatz der Thermodynamik besagt, dass Energie nicht erzeugt oder zerstört, sondern nur umgewandelt werden kann. Dies kann innerhalb einer klassischen Nahrungskette demonstriert werden, in der die Lichtenergie der Sonne von Pflanzen als Strahlungsenergie genutzt wird. Sie wird in chemische Energie umgewandelt und dann in komplexen Kohlenhydraten gespeichert. Die Pflanzen werden dann von Tieren verzehrt und während des Verdauungsprozesses geben die Zucker Energie in Form von Wärme ab. Der Zucker produziert auch chemische Energie, die entweder durch Arbeit verbraucht wird, in Makromolekülen wie Glykogen und Fettsäuren gespeichert oder von einem Raubtier verzehrt wird. Die Abfallprodukte und abgestorbenen organischen Stoffe von Tieren werden dann von Bakterien und Pilzen zersetzt und in den Boden zurückgeführt. So bieten sie den Pflanzen Nahrung für ihr Wachstum und der Kreislauf wiederholt sich.
 
 <h4>Der erste Hauptsatz der Thermodynamik</h4>
 
 Bei der Fotosynthese werden aus Photonen komplexe Kohlenhydrate hergestellt, welche Pflanzen selbst zum Leben und wachsen nutzen. Durch diesen Prozess wird gleichzeitig Sauerstoff an die Atmosphäre abgegeben.
 
 Die Pflanzen dienen als Nahrung für pflanzenfressende Tiere (Herbivore) und während des Verdauungsprozesses werden Zucker abgebaut. Dabei wird Energie freigesetzt, die entweder als Wärme abgegeben wird oder zur Bereitstellung chemischer Energie aus Glucose. Diese chemische Energie wird für zelluläre Prozesse, die es dem Tier ermöglichen, zu überleben und sich fortzupflanzen, genutzt. Die Energie kann auch in Makromolekülen als chemische Energie gespeichert werden. Glykogen kann beispielsweise in der Leber oder in den Muskeln gespeichert werden und kann in Zeiten hohen Energiebedarfs schnell genutzt werden. Es kann auch als Energiereserve in Form von Fettsäuren eingelagert werden. Das Tier kann dann diese Energie schließlich weiter an ein Raubtier (Karnivore) geben, welches diese Energie auf ähnliche Weise nutzen wird.
 
 Die Abfallprodukte aus jedem Schritt werden ebenfalls in die Luft, das Wasser oder den Boden zurückgeführt, welche die Nahrungskette erhalten. Destruenten, wie Bakterien und Pilze, fressen abgestorbene organische Stoffe und führen sie in den Boden zurück. So können sie von Pflanzen wieder zum Wachstum genutzt werden.

Energy flow in a food web shows the First Law of Thermodynamics in action. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. It can only change form as it moves through living things and the environment.

Sunlight is the starting point. Plants capture radiant energy from the sun during photosynthesis and turn it into chemical energy stored in complex carbohydrates. At the same time, oxygen is released into the atmosphere.

Herbivores eat the plants and use those sugars during digestion. The energy is released as heat or used as chemical energy from glucose to power cellular processes that help the animal survive and reproduce. Some of that energy is also stored in macromolecules. Glycogen can be kept in the liver or muscles and used quickly when energy demand is high. Energy can also be stored as fatty acids.

That stored energy can then move to a predator, such as a carnivore, which uses it in a similar way. Waste products and dead organic matter from animals are broken down by decomposers like bacteria and fungi. The materials return to the soil, air, or water, and plants can use them again as the food web continues.
