 In Übereinstimmung mit dem induzierten Anpassungsmodell der Enzymaktivität ändert diese Bindung die Konformation, die Form sowohl des Enzyms als auch des Substrats.
 Dies bringt das Substrat näher an den höheren Energieübergangszustand, der für das Auftreten der Reaktion erforderlich ist.
 Zum Beispiel durch Schwächung seiner Bindungen, damit es leichter reagieren kann.
 Nach der Herstellung des Reaktionsprodukts wird das Enzym freigesetzt und kann zur erneuten Katalyse von Reaktionen verwendet werden.

Die meisten chemischen Reaktionen in Zellen benötigen Enzyme. Das sind biologische Katalysatoren, welche die Reaktion beschleunigen, ohne verbraucht oder dauerhaft verändert zu werden. Ihre Funktion ist es, die Aktivierungsenergie zu reduzieren, welche für die Umsetzung der Reaktanten bzw. Edukte in Produkte benötigt wird. Enzyme sind in der Regel Proteine. Sie funktionieren, durch Bindung an ein Substrat; ein Reaktant, den sie umsetzen.
 
 <h4>Spezifität</h4>
 
 Enzyme besitzen eine Substratspezifität, das heißt, dass sie nur an bestimmte Substrate binden können. Diese wird hauptsächlich durch die Form und die chemischen Eigenschaften ihres aktiven Zentrums bestimmt. Das aktive Zentrum ist die Region des Enzyms, die das Substrat bindet.
 
 Anhand des Induced-Fit-Modells der Enzymaktivität verändert die Substratbindung die Konformation oder Form des Enzyms und des Substrats. Dadurch wird das Substrat näher an den höheren Energieübergangszustand gebracht, der für die Reaktion benötigt wird. Das beinhaltet zum Beispiel die Schwächung der Bindungen im Substrat, so dass es leichter reagieren kann. Enzyme können eine Reaktion auch beschleunigen, indem sie innerhalb des aktiven Zentrums Bedingungen schaffen, die für den Ablauf der Reaktion günstiger sind als die, der Zellumgebung.
 
 Wenn die Reaktionsprodukte einmal gebildet sind, werden sie aus dem aktiven Zentrum der Enzyme freigesetzt, welche dann wieder zur Katalyse von weiteren Reaktionen zur Verfügung stehen.

Enzymes speed up many chemical reactions in cells. They are biological catalysts, so they increase reaction speed without being consumed or permanently changed. They do this by lowering the activation energy needed to turn reactants into products.

Enzymes are proteins that usually work by binding to a substrate, which is the reactant molecule they act on. They show substrate specificity, meaning they bind only certain substrates. This specificity depends mainly on the shape and chemical features of the enzyme’s active site, the region that binds the substrate.

The induced-fit model explains what happens after the substrate binds. The binding changes the enzyme’s shape, or conformation. This change helps bring the substrate closer to the higher-energy transition state needed for the reaction, such as by weakening bonds so the substrate can react more easily.

Enzymes can also make the active site a better place for the reaction than the surrounding cell environment. After the products form, they leave the active site. The enzyme can then catalyze the reaction again.
