The Nucleus

In eukaryotischen Zellen ist der Zellkern eine membrangebundene Organelle, die die genetische Information der Zelle – die DNA – beherbergt.
Die Organisation der DNA im Zellkern hängt jedoch von der Zellzyklusphase ab.
Wenn sich die Zelle beispielsweise nicht teilt, sind die DNA-Proteinkomplexe, die als Chromatinfasern bekannt sind, lose im Nukleoplasma suspendiert, was einen einfachen Zugang zu DNA-Replikations- und Transkriptionsenzymen ermöglicht.
Im Gegensatz dazu werden die Chromatinfasern bei der bevorstehenden Teilung der Zelle zu Chromosomen komprimiert.
Der Nukleolus ist eine eigenständige Region innerhalb des Zellkerns, die auf den Aufbau der Ribosomen spezialisiert ist – RNA-Protein-Komplexe, die für die Proteintranslation verantwortlich sind.
Der Kern ist von einer doppelten Membranbarriere, der Kernhülle, umgeben, die mit Kernporenkomplexen oder NPCs ausgekleidet ist.
Diese NPCs steuern den Austausch von Molekülen zwischen dem Zellkern und dem Zytoplasma.
Während die meisten Zellen im Körper einen Zellkern haben, sind einige, wie die roten Blutkörperchen, kernhaltig, d.h. ihnen fehlt ein Kern. Andere, wie z. B. Skelettmuskelzellen, sind aufgrund struktureller und funktioneller Bedürfnisse mehrkernig.

Der Zellkern ist ein membrangebundenes Organell, das als Kontrollzentrum in einer eukaryotischen Zelle fungiert. Es enthält chromosomale DNA, die die Genexpression steuert und die Produktion von Proteinen innerhalb der Zelle präzise reguliert. Im Gegensatz dazu führt die DNA in den Mitochondrien und Chloroplasten nur Funktionen aus, die für diese Organellen spezifisch sind.

Anordnung der DNA im Kern

Die Regulierung der Genexpression im Zellkern hängt von vielen Faktoren ab, unter anderem von der DNA-Struktur. Die DNA im Zellkern ist um Proteine, sogenannte Histone, gewickelt, wodurch ein DNA-Protein-Komplex namens Chromatin entsteht. Wenn sich Zellen nicht teilen, also während der Interphase, ist das Chromatin diffus organisiert. Dies ermöglicht einen einfachen Zugriff auf die DNA während der Transkription. Wenn die eukaryotische Zelle kurz vor der Teilung steht, verdichtet sich das Chromatin fest zu unterschiedlichen, linearen Chromosomen, die leicht in Tochterzellen aufgetrennt werden können.

Nukleolen

Der Nukleolus ist ein membranloses Organell, das sich um die chromosomalen Loci der ribosomalen RNA im Zellkern bildet. Daher sind Nukleolen der Ort für die rRNA-Synthese und den Zusammenbau ribosomaler Untereinheiten. Diese Untereinheiten werden später aus dem Zellkern exportiert, um sie zu voll funktionsfähigen Ribosomen zusammenzusetzen.

Zusätzliche subnukleare Strukturen

Der Kern enthält auch viele andere Kernkörper, wie zum Beispiel Cajal-Körper, Speckles und Paraspeckles. Diese Kernkörper tragen dazu bei, die nukleare Umgebung räumlich zu unterteilen und unterschiedliche Orte für spezifische biologische Reaktionen zu schaffen. Darüber hinaus ermöglicht ihre membranlose Struktur einen besseren Austausch des Inhalts mit dem Nukleoplasma.

The nucleus is a membrane-bound organelle that stores chromosomal DNA and helps control what proteins a eukaryotic cell makes. It acts as the cell’s control center. DNA in mitochondria and chloroplasts is different because it mainly supports functions specific to those organelles.

Inside the nucleus, DNA is wrapped around proteins called histones. This DNA-protein complex is called chromatin. During interphase, when the cell is not dividing, chromatin stays loosely arranged so the DNA is easy to access for transcription. As a eukaryotic cell prepares to divide, the chromatin condenses into distinct, linear chromosomes that can be separated into daughter cells.

The nucleus also contains the nucleolus, which is a membrane-less organelle. It forms around chromosomal regions that contain ribosomal RNA, or rRNA. The nucleolus is the site of rRNA synthesis and the assembly of ribosomal subunits. These subunits later leave the nucleus and join together to form functional ribosomes.

Other nuclear bodies are present as well. Cajal bodies, speckles, and paraspeckles help organize the nuclear space into regions for specific biological reactions. Their membrane-less structure also allows materials to move more easily with the nucleoplasm, the fluid inside the nucleus.
