Interference and Superposition of Waves

Wenn zwei Wellen physisch am selben Ort vorhanden sind, ist die resultierende Störung eine dritte Welle. Dieser Effekt wird als Interferenz bezeichnet.
Mathematisch kann die Interferenz durch das Prinzip der Überlagerung beschrieben werden. Sie besagt, dass, wenn sich zwei oder mehr Wellen am selben Punkt überlappen, die resultierende Welle die algebraische Summe der einzelnen Wellen ist.
Bei der algebraischen Summe müssen sowohl die Amplitude als auch die Phase berücksichtigt werden.
Wenn sich zwei Wellen an einem Punkt mit derselben Phase überlagern, hat die resultierende Welle eine Amplitude, die der Summe der Amplituden der einzelnen Welle entspricht. Dieses Phänomen wird als konstruktive Interferenz bezeichnet.
Wenn sich andererseits zwei Wellen an einem Punkt mit entgegengesetzten Phasen überlagern, ist die Amplitude der resultierenden Welle gleich der Differenz zwischen den Amplituden der beiden einzelnen Wellen. Dieses Phänomen wird als destruktive Interferenz bezeichnet.
Wenn konstruktive und destruktive Interferenz in abwechselnden Bereichen auftreten, erhalten wir ein Interferenzmuster.

Wenn zwei Wellen gleicher Natur gleichzeitig in derselben Region auftreten, resultiert dies in Interferenz. Interferenz von Wellen bedeutet, dass der Gesamteffekt der Wellen die Summe der individuellen Welleneffekte ist. Es bedeutet jedoch nicht, dass die individuellen Wellen die Ausbreitung anderer Wellen beeinflussen.

Interferenz tritt bei mechanischen Wellen wie Schallwellen, Wellen auf einer Saite und Oberflächenwellen auf. Mechanische Wellen entsprechen der physikalischen Verschiebung von Teilchen. Daher bedeutet Interferenz, dass die physikalische Verschiebung der Teilchen eines Mediums durch die algebraische Summe der Verschiebungen verursacht wird, die die individuellen Wellen verursachen. Interferenz tritt auch bei anderen Wellen wie elektromagnetischen Wellen auf, bei denen sich die elektrischen und magnetischen Felder vektoriell addieren.

Der Superpositionsgrundsatz gilt jedoch nicht für bestimmte Wellen. Das heißt, die resultierende Welle kann nicht einfach algebraisch aus der Summe der individuellen Wellen berechnet werden. In diesem Fall ist die Wirkung nichtlinear und erschwert die Beschreibung des Phänomens. Diese Wellen werden als nichtlineare Wellen bezeichnet.

Alternative Bereiche konstruktiver und destruktiver Interferenz können zu Interferenzmustern führen, einem eindeutigen Hinweis auf das Auftreten von Wellenphänomenen in der Natur.

Wave interference patterns form when two waves of the same nature occupy the same region at the same time. The combined effect is the sum of the individual wave effects. Interference does not mean that one wave changes how the other wave travels.

This idea applies to mechanical waves, including sound waves, waves on a string, and surface water waves. Mechanical waves move through a medium, so interference shows up as the algebraic sum of particle displacements in that medium. The same principle also applies to electromagnetic waves, where the electric and magnetic fields add together vectorially.

Not every wave follows simple superposition. For some waves, the result is not just a direct sum of the separate waves. These are nonlinear waves, and their behavior is harder to describe.

Interference can create alternating bands of constructive and destructive interference. These bands form an interference pattern, which is a clear sign that wave behavior is present in nature.

Mechanical Waves in Air, Water, and Earth

Mechanical waves carry a disturbance through a medium. They repeat periodically and are often linked with simple harmonic motion. These waves follow Newton's laws and need a material medium to move through. A medium is the substance that carries the wave and provides an elastic restoring force when it is deformed. Water waves, sound waves, and seismic waves are examples of mechanical waves. In water waves, water is the medium. In sound waves, the medium is usually air, but it can also be water.

Wave motion can be described by a few key parameters. Simple mechanical waves repeat over several cycles and can be modeled with sine and cosine functions. A simplified surface water wave is a good example. The water moves up and down, while the wave disturbance travels horizontally through the medium.
