In Biots Atmung sind die Atemfrequenz und -tiefe unregelmäßig, wobei sich Perioden tiefen Keuchens mit Perioden von Apnoe abwechseln.
Die häufigste Ursache ist eine Schädigung des Atmungszentrums im Gehirn aufgrund von Erkrankungen wie Schlaganfall, Kopftrauma und spinaler Meningitis.
Die Cheyne-Stokes-Atmung ist durch einen Atemzyklus gekennzeichnet, der mit langsamen, flachen Atemzügen beginnt und allmählich zu einer abnormalen Frequenz und Tiefe ansteigt. Das Muster wechselt sich mit der Atmung ab und führt zu Apnoe, bevor die Atmung wieder aufgenommen wird.
Zum Beispiel zeigen Patienten mit Herzinsuffizienz, Hyponatriämie und Hirnverletzungen dieses Atemmuster.
Kussmauls Atmung ist ungewöhnlich tief und schnell, aber gleichmäßig im Tempo. Die häufige Ursache ist die Stimulation des Atemzentrums aufgrund einer metabolischen Azidose.
Hyperventilation geht mit einer erhöhten Atemfrequenz und -tiefe einher und kann zu Hypokarbie führen. Angstzustände, Bewegung und metabolische Azidose sind einige Ursachen für Hyperventilation.
Hypoventilation ist eine flache und unregelmäßige Beatmung. Es resultiert aus einer Überdosierung bestimmter Anästhetika, längerer Bettruhe oder Brustschiene, um Atemwegsschmerzen zu vermeiden.

Es gibt zahlreiche Arten normaler und abnormaler Atmung. Basierend auf den Atembewegungen werden die Atemmuster in regelmäßig, tief und flach eingeteilt. Beispiele hierfür sind Biot-Atmung, Cheyne-Stokes-Atmung, Kussmaul-Atmung, Hyperventilation und Hypoventilation. Jedes Muster ist klinisch bedeutsam und hilft bei der Beurteilung von Patienten.


Bei der Biots-Atmung sind die Atemfrequenz und -tiefe unregelmäßig und wechseln sich zwischen Phasen tiefen Keuchens und Apnoe ab. Zu den häufigsten Ursachen gehören ein erhöhter Hirndruck und eine Schädigung des Atmungszentrums des Gehirns durch Erkrankungen wie Schlaganfall, Kopftrauma und spinale Meningitis.


Die Cheyne-Stokes-Atmung beginnt mit langsamen, flachen Atemzügen, die allmählich an Geschwindigkeit und Tiefe zunehmen. Das Muster kehrt sich um; Die Atmung verlangsamt sich, wird flach und endet in einer Apnoe, bevor sie wieder einsetzt. Dieses Muster wird bei Patienten mit Herzinsuffizienz, Hyponatriämie, Hirnverletzung, Medikamentenüberdosierung, erhöhtem Hirndruck und Nierenversagen beobachtet. Es kann auch während der normalen Alterung oder in großen Höhen auftreten.


Kussmauls Atmung ist ungewöhnlich tief und schnell, bleibt aber im Tempo konstant. Sie resultiert häufig aus einer Stimulation des Atemzentrums aufgrund einer metabolischen Azidose im Zusammenhang mit diabetischer Ketoazidose.


Hyperventilation ist durch eine erhöhte Atemfrequenz und -tiefe gekennzeichnet und kann zu Hypokarbie führen. Zu den Ursachen gehören Veränderungen der Blutgaskonzentration, Angstzustände, sportliche Betätigung und metabolische Azidose.


Bei der Hypoventilation handelt es sich um eine flache und unregelmäßige Atmung, die oft durch eine Überdosis bestimmter Anästhetika, längere Bettruhe oder bewusste Schienung des Brustkorbs zur Vermeidung von Atemschmerzen verursacht wird.


Zusammenfassend lässt sich sagen, dass ein umfassendes Verständnis dieser Atemwegsmuster, ihrer Merkmale und der damit verbundenen Ursachen für medizinisches Fachpersonal von entscheidender Bedeutung ist, um Patienten mit Atemwegsproblemen effektiv beurteilen und behandeln zu können.

Breathing patterns can be regular, deep, or shallow, and they can also become abnormal. These changes help explain how ventilation is affected in different conditions. Clinically, they are important because they can guide patient evaluation.

Biot's breathing is irregular in both rate and depth. It alternates between deep gasping breaths and apnea, which is a pause in breathing. It may occur with increased intracranial pressure or damage to the brain's respiratory center, such as from stroke, head trauma, or spinal meningitis.

Cheyne-Stokes respiration follows a repeating cycle. Breathing starts slow and shallow, then gradually becomes faster and deeper. It then slows again, becomes shallow, and ends with apnea before the pattern starts over. This pattern can be seen in cardiac failure, hyponatremia, brain injury, drug overdose, increased intracranial pressure, and renal failure. It may also appear with normal aging or at high altitudes.

Kussmaul's breathing is different because it is both deep and rapid, but the pace stays steady. It is often linked to stimulation of the respiratory center from metabolic acidosis. A common example is diabetic ketoacidosis.

Hyperventilation means breathing faster and deeper than usual. It can lead to hypocarbia, which is low carbon dioxide in the blood. Causes include changes in blood gas levels, anxiety, exercise, and metabolic acidosis. Hypoventilation is the opposite pattern and involves shallow, irregular breathing. It may result from overdose of certain anesthetic agents, prolonged bed rest, or conscious splinting of the chest to avoid pain during breathing.
