Die funktionelle Restkapazität (FRC) ist die Luft, die nach einer normalen Ausatmung in der Lunge verbleibt – die normalen Werte von FRC liegen zwischen 2,6 und 3,2 Litern.
Die Vitalkapazität (VC) ist die maximale Luft, die man nach einer vollständigen Einatmung ausatmen kann. Ein normaler Wert für VC liegt bei 4 bis 5 Litern.
Die Gesamtlungenkapazität oder TLC repräsentiert alle Volumina innerhalb beider Lungen zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt, einschließlich des Tidalvolumens, des inspiratorischen Reservevolumens, des exspiratorischen Reservevolumens und des Restvolumens.

Functional residual capacity, or FRC, is the air left in the lungs after a normal exhalation. It is calculated from expiratory reserve volume and residual volume.
