Standard Deviation of Calculated Results

Die Standardabweichung misst die Streuung von geclusterten Daten über den Mittelwert.
Wenn die Standardabweichung niedriger ist, ist die Verteilung um den Mittelwert enger, was zu einer hohen Präzision führt.
Für eine endliche Anzahl von Messungen – die Teilmenge der Grundgesamtheit – werden der Mittelwert und die Standardabweichung als Stichprobenmittelwert bzw. Stichprobenstandardabweichung bezeichnet.
Ein Satz von N Messungen kann N Abweichungen von einem Referenzpunkt aufweisen – den wahren Mittelwert, d. h. N Freiheitsgrade. Wenn jedoch der geschätzte Mittelwert als Referenzpunkt festgelegt wird, sind nur N-1 unabhängige Abweichungen erforderlich, da die letzte vorbestimmt ist.
Die Standardabweichung, ausgedrückt als Bruchteil des Mittelwerts, wird als relative Standardabweichung bezeichnet. Wenn es in Prozent angegeben wird, handelt es sich um den Variationskoeffizienten. Die Varianz ist das Quadrat der Standardabweichung.

Die Standardabweichung misst die Streuung der Daten um den Mittelwert. Viele große Datensätze folgen einer Gaußschen Verteilung, auch Normalverteilung genannt. Diese Verteilung ist glockenförmig gekrümmt, wobei der am häufigsten beobachtete Wert (Mittelwert oder Zentralwert) in der Mitte liegt. Je weiter vom Zentralwert entfernt, desto größer ist die Abweichung vom Zentralwert und desto geringer ist die Häufigkeit.

Eine breite Gaußsche Verteilungskurve hat eine größere Standardabweichung, was einen Datensatz mit geringerer Präzision darstellt. Bei Daten mit hoher Präzision ist die Größe der Standardabweichung klein und die Breite der Verteilungskurve schmal.

Der Mittelwert und die Standardabweichung der gesamten Daten oder Population werden als Populationsmittelwert bzw. Populationsstandardabweichung bezeichnet. Die Standardabweichung für eine Grundgesamtheitsteilmenge ist die Stichprobenstandardabweichung, und der geschätzte Mittelwert der Teilmenge wird als Stichprobenmittelwert bezeichnet. Eine nützliche Möglichkeit, die Standardabweichung auszudrücken, ist die „relative Standardabweichung“, die die Standardabweichung als Bruchteil des Mittelwerts ausdrückt. Diese Größe wird auch Variationskoeffizient genannt und oft in Prozent ausgedrückt.

Standard deviation describes how spread out data are around the mean. It helps show how tightly values cluster near the center and how far they sit from that central value. Many large data sets follow a Gaussian distribution, also called a normal distribution.

A Gaussian distribution has a bell-shaped curve. The mean, or central value, appears in the middle, where the most frequent values are found. As data points move farther from the center, deviation increases and frequency decreases.

The width of the curve reflects precision. A broad Gaussian curve has a wider standard deviation, which indicates lower precision. A narrow curve has a small standard deviation, which indicates higher precision.

Standard deviation can be reported for a whole population or for a sample. The population mean and population standard deviation describe the entire data set. For a subset, the sample mean and sample standard deviation are used.

Standard deviation can also be written as a relative standard deviation. This value shows standard deviation as a fraction of the mean. It is also called the coefficient of variation and is often given as a percentage.
