Correlation and Regression

Regression und Korrelation sind statistische Techniken, die die Beziehung zwischen zwei Variablen untersuchen. 
Während die Regression verwendet wird, um die Änderung einer Variablen zu verstehen, die durch die Änderung einer anderen Variablen verursacht wird, misst die Korrelation die Stärke und die Richtung der linearen Korrelation zwischen den beiden Variablen. 
Bei der linearen Regression wird die Beziehung zwischen zwei Variablen hergestellt, indem eine Linie an die Datenpunkte angepasst wird. Die Gleichung der Geraden sagt zuverlässig den Wert einer unbekannten Variablen basierend auf einer bekannten Variablen voraus. 
Die lineare Korrelation wird mit dem Pearson-Korrelationskoeffizienten "r" ausgedrückt, der von -1 bis +1 reicht. Ein Wert näher an -1 oder +1 deutet auf eine starke Korrelation zwischen Variablen hin, während ein Nullwert auf keine Korrelation hinweist.

Der Koeffizient wird symbolisch durch „r“ dargestellt und liegt zwischen -1 und +1. Ein positiver Wert weist auf eine positive Korrelation hin, bei der sich die beiden Variablen in die gleiche Richtung bewegen. Ein negativer Wert deutet auf eine negative Korrelation hin, bei der sich die beiden Variablen in entgegengesetzte Richtungen bewegen. Ein Wert näher bei +1 oder −1 deutet darauf hin, dass die beiden Variablen direkt oder umgekehrt stark korrelieren. Ein Wert nahe Null impliziert keine lineare Korrelation zwischen den beiden Variablen.
Um den Korrelationskoeffizienten und die am besten passende Gleichung zu erhalten, verwenden Statistiker die Methode der linearen Regression. Die am besten angepasste Gleichung kann anschließend verwendet werden, um den Wert eines Signals vorherzusagen ('y' in der linearen Gleichung) oder die Konzentration der Substanz zu berechnen, die das Signal liefert ('x' in der linearen Gleichung).

Correlation and regression are used to study the relationship between two variables. Correlation shows how strongly the variables are associated. Regression helps describe that relationship with a line that can be used for prediction.

In linear regression, the relationship is written as a correlation coefficient. This coefficient is shown as r and ranges from -1 to +1. A positive value means the variables move in the same direction. A negative value means they move in opposite directions.

Values close to +1 or -1 show a strong correlation. A value near zero means there is no linear correlation. Statisticians use linear regression to find both the correlation coefficient and the best-fit equation.

The best-fit equation can then be used to predict a signal value, or y, in the linear equation. It can also be used to calculate the concentration of the substance that gives the signal, or x. This makes correlation and regression useful tools for analyzing data and making predictions.
