Ein Sperrschicht-Feldeffekttransistor wird in elektronischen Schaltungen verwendet, um elektrische Ströme zu steuern.

In der Kristallstruktur eines N-Typ-JFET befindet sich eine dünne Schicht aus N-Typ-Material auf einem P-Typ-Substrat. Der Anguss wird auf dem N-Kanal aus P-Typ-Material geformt. Anschlussdrähte werden am Ende des Kanals und des Gates angebracht.
In einem N-Kanal-JFET stößt eine negative Gate-Spannung die Kanalelektronen ab, wodurch ein Verarmungsbereich entsteht und die Kanalleitfähigkeit verringert wird.
Umgekehrt stößt in einem P-Kanal-JFET eine positive Gate-Spannung die Kanallöcher ab, was zu einer verringerten Kanalleitfähigkeit durch Sperrvorspannung führt.
Durch die Steuerung der Gate-Source-Spannung kann die Breite des Verarmungsbereichs angepasst werden, wodurch der Stromfluss durch den Kanal effektiv gesteuert wird.
Der AC-Drain-Widerstand, der typischerweise im Bereich von mehreren hundert Ohm liegt, bestimmt die Strommenge, die durch den Kanal fließt. Weitere wichtige Parameter eines JFET sind die Transkonduktanz und der Verstärkungsfaktor.

Bei der Vorspannung dieses Typs wird eine negative Spannung an das Gate relativ zur Quelle angelegt. Diese negative Spannung stößt Elektronen im Kanal ab und erzeugt eine Verarmungszone, die den Kanal verengt und seine Leitfähigkeit verringert. Diese Manipulation der Kanalbreite steuert den Elektronenfluss und folglich den Strom.

Im Gegensatz dazu verfügt ein P-Kanal-JFET über einen P-Typ-Halbleiterkanal mit N-Typ-Gate-Material auf beiden Seiten. Bei dieser Struktur werden durch Anlegen einer positiven Gate-Spannung an den P-Typ-Kanal die Löcher abgestoßen, wodurch die Verarmungszone vergrößert und die Leitfähigkeit verringert wird. Diese Sperrvorspannung ist entscheidend für die Steuerung des Stroms durch das Gerät.

Eine effektive Vorspannung ist für JFETs, die als Schalter oder Verstärker verwendet werden, von grundlegender Bedeutung. Die angelegte Gate-Source-Spannung passt die Breite der Verarmungszone präzise an und steuert den Stromfluss durch den Kanal. Biasing of FET

JFET gate-source bias controls current flow in a junction field effect transistor. A JFET uses one carrier type and comes in N-channel or P-channel forms. In both cases, the channel is surrounded by PN junctions, and those junctions help control how current moves through the device.

In an N-channel JFET, N-type material forms the channel on a P-type substrate. The gate is made of P-type material. Biasing this device means applying a negative voltage to the gate relative to the source. That negative voltage repels electrons in the channel and creates a depletion region, which narrows the channel and lowers its conductivity.

A P-channel JFET works in the opposite way. It has a P-type semiconductor channel with N-type gate material on either side. Applying a positive gate voltage to the P-type channel repels holes, increases the depletion region, and decreases conductivity. This reverse biasing is what helps control current through the device.

Proper JFET biasing is important when the device is used as a switch or an amplifier. The gate-source voltage adjusts the width of the depletion region and manages the current in the channel. Biasing also affects AC drain resistance, which is typically several hundred ohms, along with transconductance and amplification factor. Good biasing helps keep the JFET away from unwanted saturation or cutoff and supports stable circuit performance.
