Im Routh-Hurwitz-Kriterium können zwei unterschiedliche Situationen auftreten.
Wenn eine einzelne Null ausschließlich in der ersten Spalte der Routh-Tabelle vorkommt, wird das Problem der Division durch Null erhöht.
Um dieses Problem zu umgehen, ersetzt eine kleine Zahl, in der Regel Epsilon, die Null.
Die Deutung beginnt mit der Annahme eines Zeichens für Epsilon. Wenn epsilon positiv gewählt wird, zeigt die Vorzeichenänderung an, dass das System instabil ist und zwei Pole in der rechten Halbebene haben. In ähnlicher Weise führt die Wahl einer Verneinung zu der gleichen Schlussfolgerung der Instabilität.
Das zweite Szenario tritt auf, wenn eine ganze Zeile nur aus Nullen besteht. Dies deutet darauf hin, dass ein gerades Polynom ein Faktor des ursprünglichen Polynoms ist.
Ein Hilfspolynom wird aus den Koeffizienten aus der Zeile über der Nullzeile gebildet. Dies wird differenziert, und die Koeffizienten aus dieser Ableitung ersetzen die Nullen in der Tabelle.
Darüber hinaus ist die übliche Methode zum Erstellen der verbleibenden Routh-Tabelle implementiert.
Gerade und ungerade Polynome werden getrennt tabellarisch dargestellt, und die Gesamtzahl der Pole in der rechten Halbebene ist die Summe der Pole in den geraden und ungeraden Polynomtabellen.

Dieses Hilfspolynom wird dann differenziert und die Koeffizienten aus der Ableitung ersetzen die Nullen in der Routh-Tabelle. Ab diesem Punkt wird das Standardverfahren zum Erstellen der verbleibenden Routh-Tabelle fortgesetzt.

Wenn gerade und ungerade Polynome getrennt behandelt werden, wird die Gesamtzahl der Pole in der rechten Hälfte der s-Ebene durch die Summierung der in den Routh-Tabellen der geraden und ungeraden Polynome gefundenen Pole bestimmt. Diese Methode gewährleistet eine umfassende Analyse der Stabilität des Systems.

Diese Sonderfälle im Routh-Hurwitz-Kriterium sind für die genaue Bestimmung der Stabilität eines Systems von entscheidender Bedeutung. Routh table special cases can make stability analysis harder when using the Routh-Hurwitz criterion. Two situations need extra care. One is a zero in the first column. The other is an entire row of zeros.

When a single zero appears in the first column, division by zero would occur. The usual fix is to replace that zero with a very small number, epsilon (ε). The stability test then continues by assuming a sign for ε. If ε is positive, any sign change in the first column means the system is unstable, with two poles in the right-half s-plane. The same unstable result also follows if ε is negative.

A full row of zeros points to another case. It suggests that the original polynomial has an even polynomial factor. To handle it, an auxiliary polynomial is built from the coefficients in the row above the zero row. That auxiliary polynomial is then differentiated, and the derivative coefficients replace the zeros in the Routh table. After that, the standard Routh process continues.

When even and odd polynomials are handled separately, the total number of poles in the right-half s-plane comes from adding the poles found in both Routh tables. This step helps give a complete stability result. Careful treatment of first-column zeros and zero rows prevents wrong conclusions about system stability and improves the identification of right-half s-plane poles.
