Non-destructive Tests for Concrete Strength

Zerstörungsfreie Prüfungen, wie z. B. der Rückprallhammertest und der Eindringwiderstandstest, können verwendet werden, um die Festigkeit von Beton in einem bestehenden Bauwerk zu bestimmen.
Der Rückprallhammer, auch Schmidt-Hammer genannt, beherbergt eine gefederte Masse.
Der Hammer wird senkrecht zu einer ebenen Betonoberfläche gehalten, indem der Stößel dagegen gedrückt wird, wodurch sich die Feder ausdehnt und die Masse zurückzieht.
Beim Loslassen prallt die Masse vom Kolben ab. Das Ausmaß dieses Rückpralls wird dann auf einer am Hammer befestigten Skala gemessen und als Rückprallzahl bezeichnet.
Je höher der Wert der Rückprallzahl ist, desto härter ist die Betonoberfläche, was auf eine hohe Betonfestigkeit hinweist.
Bei der Eindringwiderstandsprüfung, die auch als Windsor-Sondentest bekannt ist, wird eine pistolenähnliche Vorrichtung verwendet, die mit einer dreieckigen Schablone mit drei Löchern ausgestattet ist.
Die Schablone wird auf die Betonoberfläche gelegt, und mit dem Gerät werden Sonden durch jedes der drei Löcher in den Beton geschossen.
Es wird der Durchschnitt der Eindringtiefe jeder Sonde durch das Loch gemessen; je geringer die Eindringtiefe der Sonde, desto höher die Festigkeit des Betons.

Die Rückprallhärteprüfung, auch Schmidt-Hammertest genannt, ist eine zerstörungsfreie Methode zur Bewertung der Härte und indirekt der Festigkeit von Beton. Er basiert auf dem Prinzip, dass der Rückprall einer federgetriebenen Masse von einer Betonoberfläche mit der Härte der Oberfläche korreliert. Das Gerät besteht aus einer Masse in einem röhrenförmigen Gehäuse, einem Federmechanismus und einem Kolben, der auf den Beton schlägt. Beim Loslassen bewirkt die von der Feder auf die Masse übertragene Energie, dass sie zurückprallt. Die zurückgelegte Strecke der Masse ergibt einen Rückprallwert. Dieser Wert wird jedoch durch das Vorhandensein von Zuschlagstoffen und Hohlräumen unter der Oberfläche sowie den Winkel des Hammers beeinflusst, sodass für eine genaue Messung mehrere Messungen erforderlich sind.


 Der Penetrationsversuch oder Windsor-Test hingegen misst die Betonfestigkeit, indem die Eindringtiefe von in den Beton geschossenen Sonden gemessen wird. Dieser Versuch, bei dem die Oberfläche durch die Entstehung kleiner Löcher leicht beschädigt wird, wird mit einer Spezialpistole durchgeführt, die die Sonden durch drei Löcher in einer am Beton befestigten Schablone abfeuert. Die Eindringtiefe ist umgekehrt proportional zur Betonfestigkeit, wobei die durchschnittliche Eindringtiefe von drei Sonden den Messwert liefert. Diese Methode gilt als genauere Schätzung der Betonfestigkeit als der Rückprallhammer, da sie das Material unter der Oberfläche beurteilt.

Concrete strength can be checked without fully breaking the material. Two common methods are the rebound hammer test, also called the Schmidt hammer test, and the penetration resistance test, also called the Windsor Probe test. Both are used to estimate the strength of existing concrete.

The rebound hammer test measures the hardness of the concrete surface and gives an indirect clue about strength. A spring-driven mass moves inside a tubular housing and strikes a plunger against the concrete. The mass then rebounds, and the travel distance gives a rebound number. That number can be affected by aggregates and voids under the surface, as well as by the angle of the hammer. For that reason, multiple readings are needed for better accuracy.

The penetration resistance test looks at how far probes can enter the concrete. A gunlike device fires probes through three holes in a template attached to the surface. The test makes small holes, so it slightly damages the concrete, but it is still considered a low-damage method. The deeper the probe goes, the lower the concrete strength is likely to be. The average penetration of the three probes is used to measure strength, and this method is considered more accurate than the rebound hammer because it checks material below the surface.
