Plane Potentialströmungen vereinfachen die Fluidbewegung, indem sie eine irrotations- und inkompressible Strömung annehmen, die durch eine Geschwindigkeitspotentialfunktion und eine Strömungsfunktion zur Beschreibung des Strömungsfeldes bestimmt wird.
Bei gleichmäßiger Strömung bewegt sich die Flüssigkeit mit konstanter Geschwindigkeit in eine Richtung, wodurch parallele und gleichmäßig verteilte Stromlinien entstehen, die bei der Abschätzung von Durchflussraten in geraden Kanälen nützlich sind.
Bei Quellen- und Senkenströmungen bewegt sich die Flüssigkeit radial von einem Punkt nach außen oder konvergiert nach innen, wodurch symmetrische Strömungsmuster entstehen. Grundwasser, das aus einem Brunnen sickert oder in einen Brunnen abfließt, ist ein Beispiel für diese Ströme.
Bei der Wirbelströmung handelt es sich um eine kreisförmige Bewegung um einen zentralen Punkt, an dem sich die Flüssigkeit je nach Entfernung vom Zentrum mit unterschiedlichen Geschwindigkeiten dreht. Dieser Typ ist relevant für die Planung von Überläufen, um Wasser zu bewältigen, das spiralförmig durch die Abflüsse fließt.
Fließnetze kombinieren Stromlinien und Potentialausgleichslinien und helfen so bei der Visualisierung komplexer Strömungsmuster, wie z. B. Sickerpfade unter Dämmen. Dies trägt dazu bei, strukturelle Schwächungen durch eindringendes Wasser zu verhindern.

Diese Strömungsart ist bei der Konstruktion von Kanälen, Rohrleitungen und Entwässerungssystemen von entscheidender Bedeutung, da die Annahme einer konstanten Geschwindigkeit bei der Schätzung der Durchflussrate und der hydraulischen Konstruktion hilft.

Quell- und Senkenströmungen

Quell- und Senkenströmungen beschreiben radialsymmetrische Strömungen, die von einem Punkt ausgehen oder dort zusammenlaufen. Bei einem Quellfluss bewegt sich die Flüssigkeit von einem zentralen Punkt radial nach außen, während sie bei einem Senkenfluss nach innen konvergiert. Diese Flüsse werden mithilfe eines Flussratenparameters modelliert, um die Stärke der Quelle oder Senke darzustellen. Dieses Modell wird häufig in der Grundwasserhydrologie verwendet, wo Quellflüsse die Grundwasserneubildung darstellen, beispielsweise aus einem Injektionsbrunnen, und Senkenflüsse die Grundwasserentnahme in einem Pumpbrunnen.

Wirbelfluss

Bei einem Wirbelfluss zirkuliert Flüssigkeit um einen zentralen Punkt und tritt in zwei Formen auf: frei und gezwungen. Bei einem freien Wirbel bewegen sich Partikel ohne äußere Kraft auf kreisförmigen Bahnen um einen zentralen Punkt und erzeugen so einen Strudeleffekt, der häufig in natürlichen Gewässern beobachtet wird. Dieses Modell wird verwendet, um Überlauf- und Entwässerungssysteme zu entwerfen, die den spiralförmigen Wasserfluss steuern, um Verstopfungen oder Turbulenzen zu verhindern. Bei einem gezwungenen Wirbel treibt eine äußere Kraft die Rotation der Flüssigkeit an und erzeugt ein Szenario, in dem die Flüssigkeit als starrer Körper rotiert. Erzwungene Wirbel werden in Absetzbecken und bestimmten hydraulischen Geräten verwendet, bei denen eine gleichmäßige Rotation die Sedimenttrennung und Flüssigkeitsmischung unterstützt.

Strömungsnetze

In Strömungsnetzen stellen Stromlinien den Flüssigkeitsflussweg dar, während Äquipotentiallinien Punkte mit gleichem hydraulischen Potential markieren. Diese Linien schneiden sich senkrecht und bilden ein Gittermuster, das dabei hilft, Druckverteilungen und potenzielle Sickerwege um Strukturen herum zu identifizieren. Strömungsnetze werden konstruiert, um Sickerwasser in Boden oder porösen Medien zu bewerten. Plane potential flows describe fluid motion using simple flow patterns and models. They assume the fluid is irrotational and incompressible. These assumptions let the flow be written with a velocity potential function, φ, which gives the flow speed in a direction, and a stream function, ψ, which shows the flow path. Both are governed by Laplace's equation and are useful for estimating flow patterns, velocity distributions, and pressure fields around hydraulic structures.

Uniform flow is the simplest potential flow. The fluid moves in a straight line at a constant velocity. Its streamlines are straight, parallel, and evenly spaced. This model helps in canal, pipeline, and drainage system design because a constant-velocity assumption can support flow rate estimation and hydraulic design.

Source and sink flows show radial motion around a point. In a source flow, fluid moves outward from the center. In a sink flow, fluid moves inward toward the center. A flow rate parameter gives the strength of the source or sink. These flows are used in groundwater hydrology, where a source can represent groundwater recharge, such as from an injection well, and a sink can represent groundwater extraction from a pumping well.

Vortex flow describes fluid that circulates around a center point. It appears as a free vortex or a forced vortex. In a free vortex, particles move in circular paths without an external force, like a whirlpool in natural water. This model helps in spillway and drainage system design to reduce clogging or turbulence. In a forced vortex, an external force causes the fluid to rotate as a rigid body. Forced vortices are used in sedimentation tanks and some hydraulic devices, where steady rotation helps with sediment separation and fluid mixing.

Flow nets combine streamlines and equipotential lines. Streamlines show the path of the fluid, while equipotential lines mark points with equal hydraulic potential. These lines cross at right angles and form a grid pattern. Flow nets are used to study seepage in soil or porous media and to estimate seepage rates. They also help identify pressure distributions, possible seepage paths, and areas where erosion or structural weakness may occur.
