Die Hazard Ratio vergleicht die Gefährdung oder das Risiko eines Ereignisses, das zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt zwischen zwei Gruppen eintritt.
Betrachten Sie λ(t) als Gefahrenrate zum Zeitpunkt t, die misst, wie schnell ein Teil einer Population überleben wird, bis der Zeitpunkt t zu diesem Zeitpunkt abnimmt.
Mit anderen Worten, es kann der Anteil der Menschen sein, die aussterben werden, und derjenigen, die bis zum Zeitpunkt t am Leben sind.
Nun können die Hazard Raten für Kontrollgruppe A und Versuchsgruppe B hier als λA(t) bzw. λB(t) ausgedrückt werden. Das Verhältnis von λB(t) und λA(t) ist also die Hazard Ratio, die als θ(t) bezeichnet wird.
Eine Hazard Ratio unter 1 deutet darauf hin, dass ein Ereignis wie der Tod in der Versuchsgruppe, die eine experimentelle Behandlung begünstigt, weniger wahrscheinlich ist.
Eine Hazard Ratio über 1 deutet auf eine höhere Sterbewahrscheinlichkeit in der Versuchsgruppe hin, die eine Kontrollbehandlung begünstigt.
Schließlich bedeutet Hazard Ratio 1 die gleiche Sterbewahrscheinlichkeit sowohl für Kontroll- als auch für experimentelle Behandlungen.

A hazard ratio compares hazard rates, which are the instantaneous risk of an event happening at a given moment. It shows how the risk in one group relates to the risk in the other group. In a cancer drug study, for example, the hazard ratio can show how a new treatment affects cancer recurrence or survival compared with standard therapy.

A hazard ratio below 1 means the treatment group has a lower risk of the event. That result suggests the new treatment may help. A hazard ratio above 1 means the treatment group has a higher risk, which favors the control intervention. A hazard ratio of 1 means there is no difference in risk between the groups.

This measure is especially useful in survival analysis because it includes timing, not just whether an event happened by the end of the study.
