Left Lateral Ridge

Left lateral ridge is a ridge-like anatomical feature positioned on the left side of a biological structure, where its geometry can provide a reproducible landmark for describing form. In bioengineering, researchers identify it relative to neighboring landmarks and quantify its position, height, curvature, and surface orientation from anatomical images or three-dimensional models. These measurements support morphometric analysis, reconstruction of biological structures, and design of implants or engineered interfaces that must match local anatomy. Comparing left lateral ridge geometry across specimens can also reveal structural variation and improve computational models used to evaluate fit, contact, and mechanical loading.

Lateralization

2024

Brain lateralization refers to the division of mental processes and functions between the two hemispheres of the brain, a phenomenon that optimizes neural efficiency and underpins complex abilities in humans. This specialization allows each hemisphere to perform tasks where it has a comparative advantage, facilitating more refined cognitive capabilities across different domains. • The left hemisphere is particularly proficient in managing logical and language-related activities. • It plays a...

Induction of Traumatic Brain Injury in a Rat Model Using a Lateral Fluid Percussion Device

2025

This video demonstrates the induction of traumatic brain injury (TBI) in a rat using a lateral fluid percussion injury (FPI) device. The procedure involves creating a hole in the skull of an anesthetized rat to expose the dura mater, onto which a cannula is attached. The rat is then connected to the device, which generates a pressure wave that reaches the brain, mimicking TBI by causing neural cell death and vascular...
