Crop Rotation

Crop rotation is the planned sequencing of different crops on the same field across growing seasons, a biological management practice that supports soil health and agricultural productivity. Rotations vary nutrient demands, root systems, and plant life cycles; when legumes are included, symbiotic bacteria in their roots can add biologically available nitrogen, while changing host plants can interrupt pest and pathogen cycles. In biology and agricultural research, crop rotation helps explain nutrient cycling, plant–microbe interactions, soil structure, and ecosystem resilience. Its use can reduce dependence on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, improve water retention, and promote more sustainable crop production.

Mental Rotation

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Visual mental imagery refers to the ability to conjure images in one’s mind’s eye. This allows people to process visual material above and beyond the constraints of a current point-of-view; for example, a person could imagine, using their mind’s eye, how something might look in a different color, or what it would look like if it were made from a different material or rotated and seen from a different perspective. Mental imagery...

How to Create Conditioned Taste Aversion for Grazing Ground Covers in Woody Crops with Small Ruminants

Feeding behavior preferences in livestock can be modified to implement a grazing management plan in woody crops. Here, we present a protocol to show a lithium chloride dose after eating a new plant that induces conditioned taste aversion.

Rotational Inertia

Source: Nicholas Timmons, Asantha Cooray, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, School of Physical Sciences, University of California, Irvine, CA Inertia is the resistance of an object to being accelerated. In linear kinematics, this concept is directly related to the mass of an object. The more massive an object, the more force is required to accelerate that object. This is seen directly in Newton's second law, which states that force is equal to mass times acceleration. For rotation,...

Kinematic Equations for Rotation

2024

In mechanics, when one observes a rigid body in rotational motion with constant angular acceleration, it is possible to establish equations for its rotational kinematics. This process resembles how linear kinematics are dealt with in simpler motion studies. For instance, imagine a point A on a rigid body engaged in circular motion. The translational velocity of this particular point can be calculated by taking the time derivatives of the displacement equation, which essentially measures the...
