Enhanced Chemiluminescence

Enhanced chemiluminescence (ECL) is a highly sensitive method for detecting light-producing chemical reactions, widely used to visualize biomolecules in biological samples. In a typical immunoblot, horseradish peroxidase linked to an antibody catalyzes the oxidation of luminol in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, forming an excited intermediate that releases light as it returns to a lower energy state; ECL reagents increase and prolong this signal. Researchers use ECL to detect and quantify specific proteins after gel electrophoresis and membrane transfer, supporting studies of gene expression, cell signaling, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic responses.

2025

This video describes the chemiluminescence-based western blotting of immunoprecipitated lysates. The technique helps determine protein processing and activation. The chemiluminescent signal detected is proportional to the level of protein processing during its activation.

A Novel Technique for Generating and Observing Chemiluminescence in a Biological Setting

This protocol describes a new intraoperative imaging technique that uses a ruthenium complex as a source of chemiluminescent light emission, thereby producing high signal-to-noise ratios during in vivo imaging. Intraoperative imaging is an expanding field that could revolutionize the way that surgical procedures are performed.

Self-Evaluation: Self-Enhancement and Self-Verification

Social psychologists have documented that feeling good about ourselves and maintaining positive self-esteem is a powerful motivator of human behavior (Tavris & Aronson, 2008). In the United States, members of the predominant culture typically think very highly of themselves and view themselves as good people who are above average on many desirable traits (Ehrlinger, Gilovich, & Ross, 2005). Often, our behavior, attitudes, and beliefs are affected when we experience a threat to our...

Bioavailability Enhancement: Drug Permeability Enhancement

2026

After oral administration, poor permeability often limits the rate at which drugs are absorbed through the intestinal epithelium. Enhancing drug permeability is crucial for effective therapy, and several strategies have been developed to overcome this challenge. One effective strategy involves the use of lipid-based formulations. These formulations enhance dissolution and solubility, targeting physiological mechanisms to increase drug absorption. This includes stimulating bile salt secretion,...
