Viral Particle Assembly

Viral Particle Assembly is the coordinated process by which viral genomes and structural proteins form infectious particles inside a host cell, making it central to viral replication and transmission. It typically depends on the synthesis and localization of capsid, envelope, and matrix proteins, followed by genome packaging, capsid formation, and, in many viruses, proteolytic maturation that produces a stable, infectious virion. Studying these steps reveals how viruses organize molecular components, interact with host membranes, and overcome cellular defenses. This knowledge supports antiviral drug and vaccine development, improves viral vector design, and helps researchers understand how mutations or host conditions can alter infectivity.
