Constitutional Heterotopy

Constitutional heterotopy describes the relationship between positions or groups in a molecule that are constitutionally nonequivalent, meaning that replacing one position rather than another produces different constitutional isomers. This relationship is established through the replacement test: identical substituents are introduced separately at each site, and different connectivities confirm constitutional heterotopy. The concept helps distinguish constitutionally heterotopic positions from homotopic or stereotopic ones and provides a framework for interpreting molecular symmetry. In chemistry, it supports structural analysis, predicts whether nuclei may experience different chemical environments in NMR spectroscopy, and clarifies how molecular connectivity influences reactivity and product formation.

Constitutional Isomers of Alkanes

2023

Organic compounds of the same molecular formula can have different structural formulas called constitutional isomers, and the phenomenon is known as constitutional isomerism. Alkanes with four or more carbons showing multiple structures with the same molecular formula thereby exhibit constitutional isomerism. The linear isomer of an alkane is prefixed by the term “n”; hence a linear isomer of pentane is known as n-pentane. Based on the type of branching, some of the branched isomers are given...

Constitutive and Regulated Gene Expression

2025

Gene expression in prokaryotes is governed by constitutive and regulated systems, allowing cells to balance the production of essential proteins with adaptive responses to environmental changes.Constitutive Gene ExpressionConstitutive, or housekeeping, genes are continuously expressed as they encode proteins vital for fundamental cellular processes. These include enzymes for glycolysis, ribosomal components for protein synthesis, and proteins involved in DNA replication. Their constant...

Development of Leishmania Species Strains with Constitutive Expression of eGFP

2023

Here, we describe the methodology used for generating L. panamensis and L. donovani strains expressing the gene for eGFP as a stable integrated transgene using the pLEXSY system. Transfected parasites were cloned by limiting dilution, and clones with the highest fluorescence intensity in both species were selected for further use in drug screening assays.

2018

Targeted next-generation sequencing is a time- and cost-efficient approach that is becoming increasingly popular in both disease research and clinical diagnostics. The protocol described here presents the complex workflow required for sequencing and the bioinformatics process used to identify genetic variants that contribute to disease.

Constitutive and Inducible Systems for Genetic In Vivo Modification of Mouse Hepatocytes Using Hydrodynamic Tail Vein Injection

Hydrodynamic tail vein injection of transposon-based integration vectors enables stable transfection of murine hepatocytes in vivo. Here, we present a practical protocol for transfection systems that enables the long-term constitutive expression of a single transgene or combined constitutive and doxycycline-inducible expression of a transgene or miR-shRNA in the liver.
