Health Status

Health status is an individual’s overall level of physical, mental, and social well-being, assessed to describe current health and identify changes over time. In clinical practice, healthcare professionals evaluate it by combining medical history, physical examination, symptoms, functional ability, vital signs, laboratory findings, and patient-reported outcomes. This multidimensional assessment helps distinguish health conditions from normal variation, estimate disease burden, monitor treatment response, and guide personalized care. Standardized health-status measures also support communication among clinicians, comparison of outcomes across populations, and clinical research aimed at improving prevention, diagnosis, and long-term management.

Chronic infection with soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) causes malabsorption, stunting, and wasting in the growing child. Hence, it is plausible that these infections also reduce the physical fitness of children. Here, we visualize two techniques for the diagnosis of STHs and the 20-meter shuttle run test for assessing children's physical fitness.
