Hitech Act

The HITECH Act, or Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, is U.S. legislation that accelerated the adoption and meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) while strengthening protections for electronic protected health information. It works through incentive payments and later payment adjustments tied to certified EHR capabilities, including electronic exchange, clinical decision support, and quality reporting, alongside expanded HIPAA obligations, breach notifications, and enforcement for covered entities and business associates. In clinical practice, the law helped move documentation and information sharing from paper to interoperable digital systems, supporting care coordination, quality measurement, public health reporting, and greater accountability for patient privacy.

Modeling Hypoxia/Reoxygenation Injury in Proximal Tubular Epithelial Cells

2025

Here, we describe an in vitro protocol to model hypoxia/reoxygenation damage in the highly metabolic proximal tubular epithelial cells. This model is designed to induce metabolic stress-induced damage, which can be measured through the expression of proximal tubule damage markers and assessment of mitochondrial respiratory function.
