Hospital Gown

A hospital gown is a clinical garment designed to give healthcare providers access to a patient’s body while preserving modesty and supporting hygiene during examination, treatment, and recovery. Its open-back or wraparound construction, adjustable ties or fasteners, and short sleeves allow clinicians to examine anatomical sites, place monitoring devices, administer treatments, and manage lines or drains without fully undressing the patient; lightweight, washable, or disposable materials can also support infection-control practices. Hospital gowns connect patient comfort, privacy, mobility, and procedural access, while thoughtful design helps protect dignity and promote safe clinical care.

Using a computerized glucose management system to monitor blood glucose levels, decreases in severe hypoglycemia (<40 mg/dL), clinical hypoglycemia (<70 mg/dL), and hyperglycemia (>180 mg/dL) also can be observed.
