Subjective Data Analysis

Subjective data analysis is the systematic interpretation of information reported by a patient, including symptoms, feelings, perceptions, concerns, and personal experiences. In clinical practice, healthcare professionals collect this information through interviews, open-ended questions, and active listening, then organize and evaluate it for patterns, changes, and relevance while distinguishing it from directly measured objective data. Comparing subjective reports with vital signs, examination findings, and test results supports comprehensive assessment, clinical reasoning, and individualized care planning. This process can reveal problems that measurements alone may miss, improve communication between patients and providers, and help monitor responses to treatment over time.

A thorough health history and physical assessment are essential for identifying cardiovascular disease (CVD) symptoms and distinguishing them from other health issues. Initial Enquiry Ask the patient about their primary concern and thoroughly explore all reported symptoms. Medical History Investigate past illnesses affecting the cardiovascular system, such as angina, anemia, rheumatic fever, congenital heart disease, stroke, thrombophlebitis, dysrhythmias, varicosities Inquire about symptoms...

Assessment of the Gastrointestinal System I: Subjective Data

2025

Assessing the gastrointestinal (GI) system is a complex process that begins with collecting subjective data. This data, collected through patient interviews, provides crucial insights into the patient's health history, perception patterns, and lifestyle habits, all contributing significantly to GI health. Health History The initial step in assessing the GI system is obtaining a comprehensive health history. This includes inquiring about the patient's history or presence of problems related to...

The current article describes the basics of multivariate analysis and contrasts it to the more commonly used voxel-wise univariate analysis. Both types of analysis are applied to a clinical-neuroscience data set. Supplementary split-half simulations show better replication of the multivariate results in independent data sets.

Visual analytics (VA) is a new approach of analyzing data interactively. In this video, we discuss the data overload problem brought on by high-throughput biological experiments, and propose VA as a solution to such problem. The video demonstrates analysis within and between immunological datasets using a VA tool called Tableau.

Within-subjects Repeated-measures Design

Source: Laboratories of Gary Lewandowski, Dave Strohmetz, and Natalie Ciarocco—Monmouth University A within-subjects, or repeated-measures, design is an experimental design where all the participants receive every level of the treatment, i.e., every independent variable. For example, in a candy taste test, the researcher would want every participant to taste and rate each type of candy. This video demonstrates a within-subjects experiment (i.e., one where there is an independent variable with...
