Telemedicine

Telemedicine is the delivery of clinical health services at a distance through telecommunications technology, allowing patients and healthcare professionals to interact without sharing the same physical location. It works through secure video or telephone visits, digital exchange of medical information, and, when available, remote monitoring devices that transmit measurements such as blood pressure or glucose for clinical assessment and decision-making. In clinical practice, telemedicine supports consultation, triage, diagnosis, treatment planning, medication management, and follow-up, extending care to rural or underserved populations and improving continuity for chronic conditions. Its effectiveness depends on privacy, reliable connectivity, appropriate clinical protocols, and recognition of when in-person examination is necessary.

This study compares relational and non-relational (NoSQL) standardized medical information systems. The computational complexity of the response times of querying such database management systems (DBMS) is computed using doubling-sized databases. These results help the discussion of the appropriateness of each database approach to different scenarios and problems.

This study describes a protocol to measure exposure levels in the 2.4 GHz band, avoiding the uncertainties caused by the use of personal exposimeters as measuring devices. These alterations of the exposure levels should be taken into account, especially in compliance testing, where exposure limits are defined from non-perturbed data.

Cited by 3 •

2014

Botulinum neurotoxin is one of the most potent toxins among Category-A biothreat agents, yet a post-exposure therapeutic is not available. The high content imaging approach is a powerful methodology for identifying novel inhibitors as it enables multiparameter screening using biologically relevant motor neurons, the primary target of this toxin.
