Cutting Drilling

Cutting drilling is an engineering machining process that removes material to create openings, shapes, or separated parts, making it essential for manufacturing and construction. A cutting tool or rotating drill applies concentrated force to shear and fracture the workpiece; in drilling, the tool advances along its axis while flutes carry chips away, and cutting speed, feed rate, tool geometry, and lubrication influence heat, force, surface finish, and dimensional accuracy. Engineers use these operations to produce holes, slots, and components in metals, polymers, composites, and other materials. Understanding their mechanics supports tool selection, process optimization, defect reduction, and efficient production.

Intervertebral disc degeneration is a significant contributor to back pain and a leading cause of disability worldwide. Numerous animal models of intervertebral disc degeneration exist. We demonstrate an ovine model of intervertebral disc degeneration, utilizing a drill bit, which achieves a consistent disc injury and reproducible level of disc degeneration.

This protocol describes performing a craniectomy using a high-speed pneumatic drill on a 3-month-old Danish Landrace pig. The access is made through the frontal bone and reveals the ventral dura mater and underlying cerebral hemispheres. This procedure allows for access to a large portion of the pig brain.

Brick Cutting Techniques

2024

Brick-cutting techniques involve various tools and methods to shape bricks for construction. A mason's hammer with a chisel-pointed end is used for basic shaping through sharp, precise strikes. For more complex shapes requiring higher precision, a power saw with a water-cooled diamond blade is used. Cut bricks are categorized by size. Bricks cut to half their original length are called half-bats, while those cut to three-fourths their length are known as three-fourth bats. Special types of cut...

Cut-off Frequency of BJT

2024

Cut-off frequencies in Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJTs) mark the transition between the signal's pass band and stop band, influencing their performance in amplifying or attenuating frequencies. These frequencies are crucial for designing BJTs to meet specific operational requirements in electronic circuits. Alpha Cut-Off Frequency: Pertinent to the common-base configuration, the alpha cut-off frequency defines the upper-frequency limit at which the current gain, alpha, remains stable. As...
