Pose Estimation Training

Pose estimation training is the process of teaching machine-learning models to infer the positions and relationships of body or object landmarks from images or video. During training, models learn from annotated examples that identify keypoints, minimize the difference between predicted and reference coordinates through a loss function, and improve their parameters through backpropagation; data augmentation can increase robustness to changes in viewpoint, scale, and lighting. In engineering, trained pose-estimation systems support robotics, motion analysis, human-computer interaction, sports technology, and industrial safety. Reliable keypoint predictions enable real-time tracking, ergonomic assessment, and control of systems that respond to human movement.

Utilizing vmTracking to Improve the Accuracy of Multi-Animal Pose Estimation in Rodent Social Behavior Studies

2025

This protocol introduces vmTracking, a method that enables high-accuracy pose tracking in videos of multiple freely moving, markerless animals, even under crowded conditions where animals are densely grouped. This approach provides reliable data for analyzing social interactions that occur in semi-natural environments where animals can move freely.

What are Estimates?

2023

It isn't easy to measure a parameter such as the mean height or the mean weight of a population. So, we draw samples from the population and calculate the mean height or mean weight of the individuals in the sample. This sample data acts as a representative measure of the population parameter. These sample statistics are known as estimates. The estimate for the mean of a sample is denoted by ͞x, whereas the mean of the population is designated as μ. Further, parameters such as the mean,...

Training and Competency in Animal Procedures

All animal procedures described here must be conducted in accordance with institutional animal ethics guidelines and approved by IACUC. All procedures must follow the principles of the 3Rs—Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement—and must be performed by trained personnel. A Stepwise Approach to Training Proper training and competency in animal procedures are essential to ensure high standards of animal welfare and reliable scientific outcomes. A structured, progressive training approach is...

The Precision of Visual Working Memory with Delayed Estimation

2023

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University Human memory is limited. Throughout most of its history, experimental psychology has focused on investigating the discrete, quantitative limits of memory—how many individual pieces of information a person can remember. Recently, experimental psychologists have also become interested in more qualitative limits—how precisely is information stored? The concept of memory precision can be both intuitive and elusive at once. It is...

Estimation of k and VD of Aminoglycosides

2025

Aminoglycosides are a class of antibiotics used to treat various bacterial infections. Clinicians must determine the elimination rate constant (k) and volume of distribution (VD) to optimize therapeutic efficacy and minimize toxicity. The k value represents the rate at which the drug is removed from the body, and the VD reflects the degree to which the drug distributes into body tissues. Accurately estimating these parameters allows healthcare professionals to tailor drug dosing to individual...
