Silver Zeolite Composites

Silver zeolite composites are engineered materials that combine a porous aluminosilicate framework with silver ions or nanoparticles, creating surfaces with controlled ion exchange and antimicrobial functionality. Their zeolite structure traps and stabilizes silver species, while moisture or other competing ions can promote the gradual release of silver ions; these ions interfere with microbial membranes and essential cellular processes. In engineering, the composites support antimicrobial coatings, polymer additives, filtration media, and water-treatment materials. Their tunable porosity, silver loading, and release behavior help balance long-term performance with material stability, making them relevant to hygiene-sensitive devices, environmental systems, and advanced functional surfaces.
