Light Interception Measurement

Light interception measurement is a method for quantifying how much incoming radiation a plant canopy captures, a key indicator of the light available to drive photosynthesis and influence ecosystem productivity. It typically compares photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) above and beneath the canopy, using the difference or resulting transmission fraction to estimate intercepted light under defined conditions. Researchers use these measurements to assess canopy structure, leaf area, crop growth, competition, and environmental responses, including changes caused by shading or seasonal conditions. The data support models of carbon gain and productivity and help evaluate vegetation performance across habitats or management systems.

We developed the Visual-Motor Response to quantitate the motor output of larval zebrafish in response to light increments and decrements. We also examined zebrafish vision mutants, including the no optokinetic response (nrc) mutants, which were thought to be completely blind when tested by another vision assay, the optokinetic reflex.
