Spot Finding Tracking

Spot finding tracking is an image-analysis method that detects small, localized signals in microscopy images and follows their positions over time. The procedure identifies spots using differences in intensity or contrast, records their coordinates in successive frames, and links corresponding detections to form trajectories, allowing movement and changes in signal location to be quantified. In genetics, this approach can help analyze fluorescently labeled DNA regions, chromosomes, or molecular components in living or fixed cells, supporting measurements of positional dynamics, interactions, and spatial organization. The resulting trajectories provide quantitative data for studying genome behavior and cellular processes.

Source: Laboratory of Jonathan Flombaum—Johns Hopkins University In the back of everyone's eye is a small piece of neural tissue called the retina. The retina has photosensitive cells that respond to stimulation by light. The responses of these cells are sent into the brain through the optic nerve, a bundle of neural fibers. In each retina there is a place somewhere in the periphery where the outputs from retinal cells collect and the bundled optic nerve exits to the brain. At that location,...

Eye tracking has long been used to study gaze patterns in typically-developing individuals, but recent technological advancements have made its use with clinical populations, including autism, more feasible. While eye-tracking young children with autism can offer insight into early symptom manifestations, it involves methodological challenges. Suggestions for best practices are provided.

The purpose of the Specimen Orientation Tag (SpOT) is to function as an orientation tool to aid in individual tissue identification in multi-tissue paraffin blocks. These protocols demonstrate how it is constructed easily from common, low-cost histology materials and serves as a reliable visual marker in paraffin blocks and sections.
